Default Do multiple chops/fades/edits tax system resorces

I cant figure out why my system gets sluggish and stutters lots with minimal processors. The only thing I can think of is my insidious edits, cuts, & fades and removal of dead air & silences. Which can render a single wave into hundreds of pieces. Would this cause these problems? Guess I need to consolidate more? thanks.....
