Default Glyph Explanation

Hi. I'm currently educating myself on the various components of a Pro Tools system. Could any of you experts out there give me a quick definition of what a "Glyph" is and what function it serves to the system? Is it an essential piece of gear or does it have a specialty application?

Thanks so much.

Glyph is a manufacturer of peripherals, such as hard drives and CD burners. (they don't manufacture the drives or burners, but rather the enclosures for the most part, plus cabling, extended service, etc.)
Product information can be found on their website:

1 - I'm just the web admin, not a tech. There's quite a bit I don't know.
2 - It's my day off.
3 - I happened to know the answer. Unfortunately, I have a head stuffed full of links, rather than much actual knowledge.

Not reallly such a mystery.

Glyph is an overpriced alternative for people who are unaware of what they're buying and need to spend extra money. I believe most of the case components are made by Storecase, with their paint/logo on it. The mark up for these devices is so high, it's surprising!

Look at a glyph item that interests you, then go get the same thing for less than 1/2 the money on eBay or Storecase.

If the firewire trip was a RAID solution, then it might be worth it. But I don't feel like having 6 more drives populate on my desktop.

Glyph doesn't supply superior cooling to their hardrives than the competition?
