Default Issues with a Huawei T5 tablet.

I have a dock and S1.

The Dock is running with a Huawei T5, and the S1 with an Amazon Fire HD10.

Both suffer from the dropping off Eucon malaise.

Instructions from my distributer were to connect wired ethernet.

So I duly bought a POE switch and some ethernet to USB adapters.
The micro USB iteration to feed the T5 came in the form of a micro USB Y cable to Ethernet socket and separate USB for power.

However, after speaking with Huawei support, and testing with and without power connected, I can say that the T5 will not accept power and pass ethernet data simultaneously. It's one or the other.

Huawei even said "it shouldn't pass ethernet data at all. It wasn't designed for that."

So there you go. Hope that helps.

For me, that makes the tablet useless to me. Running out of power in the middle of a session is a show stopper. And that's not even mentioning the hugely awkward position of the USB socket which means it never sits properly in the Dock when connected.

In the meanwhile I'm still trying to source a POE Ethernet to USB-C to power and connect the Amazon tablet. The one I bought didn't work. Hen's teeth comes to mind.

(I know this is probably not massively high level at the moment, given World events, but thought I'd share for those sat in front of computers not watching the news.. Stay well folks.)

Have you gone through these Wi-Fi troubleshooting tips in the KB. It was recently updated after working with a number of customers to get their tablets better connected. http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/f...ontrol-Support

Hi Eddie.

Steps as follows:
1. Repower router. Done every day.
2. Get router close - it’s 2 or 3 feet away
3. Use dedicated gaming router. Using an Apple AirPort Extreme.
4. Minimise obstacles. 2-3 feet.
5. Make sure 2.4 and 5k are separate, not SSID. NOW separated and channel set to 36 as Amazon Fire would’t see higher numbers.
6. Turn off WiFi+ - NOW done on Huawei T5
7. QoS quality of service not available on router (AFAIK) to turn off
8. IGMP Snooping not available on router (AFAIK) to turn off
9. Connect Mac to Router with one ethernet cable, rather than 2. Yes. Already done.
10. Turn off Siri and Alexa. Always.
11. Switch to ethernet. Tried. Doesn’t work as T5 won’t power and pass ethernet and there’s no USB C adapter I can find.

Points 5 and 6 are now addressed.
We will see how this goes and I'll report back.

Thanks.

Same issues. Both tablets just decided to drop off Eucon at the same time.

Had thought it was just the Amazon Fire now, but the T5 joined the party.

I have a near identical system, S1 and Dock, Fire and iPad and don't have this issue so pretty sure its not software. When they drop off, do they crash, Do they go sluggish first, Do they still show in the All Surfaces List, Do they automatically come back. Please describe the full thing thats happening.

Hi Eddie.

Appreciate the response.

I will give you a full run down when I have some kind of pattern I can pass on.

Good to know you have a fully stable similar system, particularly as the Fire is the most frequent offender.

Do you have yours running off a WiFi router? And is it the same router that's supplying ethernet for the surfaces?

Thanks.

Yes both tablets are WiFi and the surfaces Ethernet from the same router. I might have just seen the Fire tablet App quit on its own......I'll keep testing

Hi Guys,
Was this resolved?
I am looking at getting a T5 and Fire HD10 to use with a dock and an s1. I was put off getting a Fire for the dock as apparently the resolution looks rather funky in portrait mode?

Hey.

Yes it was resolved, with a combination of the next Avid Control app and a complete re-work of my setup.

Basically I dedicated a separate Wifi router to the Eucon surfaces which has no internet access at all. Wired from the Port 2 of my Mac Pro 5 1.

So both tablets are mains powered still and Wifi-connected to that router (no way of hard-wiring any non-Apple tablets to your Mac AFAIK) and the Dock and S1 are ethernet wired to it also.
The final step was to take Eucon out of startup applications.
Now, although I have to launch Eucon manually, it works well.

I'm not sure any tablets apart from maybe the Apple larger iPads look right in portrait mode. I run my T5 in landscape. I'll have a look at the resolution when I've got a chance.

In general it's pretty good as a combo of components. If you can stand that the T5 has to be turned on manually while the Fire boots with mains on. Yes, I'm picky..
