I use a Rivera R-30, Soldano Atomic 16, JCM 800 and a '68 Fender Bassman. I use them with a slew of Speakers[4x12, 4x10, 2x12 and 1x12 open back] The Bassman is a bit strong for me 50 watts but sounds great with a TS9 or 808 in front, Mm Mm Good

If you can find a real vintage Vox AC30 Top Boost ('63-'66) that hasn't been modded and has real JMI/Celestions (Blues or Greys...some have a real preference but I use both depending on which cabinet happens to be miced up) you're in great shape. Only use the Brilliant Channel, back input. Turn it down for clean, crank it for warm and singing. With some pedals you can really get a wide range of sounds. I've got Vintage and new Marshalls, Fenders, Ampegs, what have you, and all that EVER gets turned on are the Voxes.

In lieu of this, the Matchless DC30 does pretty much the same thing, and if it's a choice between this and ANY Vox made after Jennings sold out in '67, go for the Matchless.

I have just about one of everything in the "vintage approved by those who think they know" category and would have to say you couldn't go wrong with an old AC30, Deluxe, Super or Bassman(new Fender reissues are cool too). One amp that I've had for a few years and that Fender still makes although not in tweed anymore is the Pro Junior. It's cheap, only has volume and tone and continues to kick my left buttock everytime I record with it. Replace the filter caps and the EL84's with better ones and things get even better.

Check out the new Vox AC15 top boost re-issues for that sound in a portable and affordable box. Not quite the cream of the old AC30s but still says the right thing in a mix. They all sound a bit different, so try a few out.

What about the reissue AC 30/6 TB and TBX?
Any one heard one of these and have any comments? Also on these amps what is the dif. between the green and blue backed speakers sound wise?

I dunno, man. . . I don't need no fancy Marshall or Vox . . . I have this old early 60's Fender Bassman 15 watt amp, with one big ol' 15 watt speaker and a coupla' tubes. Volume, bass, and treble knobs.

It has more character than anything I've ever heard. Of course you don't need any kind of stompbox to get waaay distorted, just crank the guitar and the amp up all the way!

But ya' know what? It all depends on what you're trying to do with your sound. YOu could force a keyboard or a synth through this amp and it would sound like a some kind of demented cartoon. Some people call that "Crap", but I think it's beautiful.

Ask for a macrocosm and you either get it or a microcosm, although these amps aren't impossible to find, they're getting to be pretty obscure.

Clapton used one long ago for dirty blues guitar.

Lots of amps at my place, but the ones I actually use:

1) Vox AC15 TB, reissue, 2x10's
2) Vos AC30 TB, blue speakers, made in 1998
3) Blackface Deluxe Reverb, Kendrick blackframe 12inch speaker
4) Leslie cabinets

5) Pod Pro, sorry

jcm 800 - pure rock

AC30 - nice clean jangle i.e. Tom Petty

60's blackface bassman/dual showman - pure tone

Orange OTR120 - blow your nuts through your colon power

fender twin(notoriously overrated) - umm you can get a nice fart sound out of it if you strum fast enough
