Default a Serious Question of How .. massive upgrades on Dec 31st

I have a Serious Question: How on earth is Avid going to Coup with massive upgrades on Dec 31st, or very near the end of the year, if they are having issues still with upgrades ..

i watch the thread above the Line regarding Avid helping people get their upgrades fixed and it is a small concern at the moment but lets watch and see if it gets better .. could be a rough end of the year if they are to Prepared for it ..

cheers john

Also just read on Swedish Soundware.se that 4950 SEK to upgrade to PT HD12 if you do it before December 31, then 3300 SEK yearly. If you miss Dec 31 it's 8300 SEK. Strange that dealers have prices but Avid still saying nothing. Seem like the numbers with paying for every year you miss + 25% fee is still on.

Bummer.

Jesper

p.s. Also read that Hardware exchange plan is ending the same date, Dec 31. Avid desperately needs cash it seem.

I would consider all future pricing (especially HD) as nonsensense at this time. There are SO many ways to buy PT12 Vanilla and 12HD for less (to much less) right now that even the viability of a support plan model is all just noise today. They will announce their grand plan eventually, Then - maybe there can be a reasonable discussion. But today ALL the discounts are for the non-up to date people. Is that really going to change or is this all one big (nauseating) scare tactic?

Oftentimes dealers jump the gun when they hear something. Might be a rumor or real deal, nobody knows until Avid goes public with it.

Sometimes companies are unable to articulate a clearly thought-out plan of execution and their employees are left to guess what they can and cannot say in public.

Here's the latest:

https://www.avid.com/US/products/pro...ware/licensing

Upgrade to Pro Tools | HD 12
Upgrade from one of the following and stay current for just $599 for the first year, then renew for $399* each year thereafter:
Pro Tools | HD 9, 10, or 11
Pro Tools with the Complete Production Toolkit
Includes an annual Avid upgrade plan, which provides all future Pro Tools upgrades for one year, plus priority help, renewable annually.

Please note that with the release of Pro Tools 12, all subsequent Pro Tools upgrades will only be available through an Avid upgrade plan. An Avid upgrade plan is included with all Pro Tools software subscriptions, Pro Tools upgrades and crossgrades, and full version Pro Tools software purchases. The plan provides access to all future Pro Tools upgrades, as well as to our Customer Care team for help, for the duration of your plan. Active subscriptions always include access. Please note that some Pro Tools and Pro Tools | HD hardware purchases that include Pro Tools 12 software do not come with an annual Avid upgrade plan at this time, but you can purchase a plan above to stay current.
An iLok 2 USB key (not included) is required to use Pro Tools 12 software.
Pro Tools | HD 9, 10 and 11 customers are eligible to purchase an annual upgrade plan for $599 through December 31, 2015. If you're eligible but do not purchase an annual upgrade plan for Pro Tools | HD by the end of 2015, you may purchase a plan in 2016 for $999, then renew thereafter for just $399/year (as long as you renew before your plan expires). Please note that while Pro Tools | HD 12 can be used as standalone software, it only works with Pro Tools | HDX and Pro Tools | HD Native hardware (trade in your old hardware and save). An iLok 2 USB key (not included) is required to use the software.

***********************************

It costs the same $$ next year if I wait, and if I wait until the year after I'm ahead

Upgrade next year: ___$0__________$999 _______ $399 _____ $1398
Upgrade year after: __ $0 _________$0 __________$999 _____ $999

Where's the incentive other than the opportunity cost of new software?

I'm not sure that a license plan should require a flowchart to comprehend it, however I think one is needed in this case.
