Default HD Native PCIE & 192 i/o, comp sees both units cant get into PT

Hi guys,

Mac Pro Quad-core Xenon 2.66Mhz 8GB RAM
OSX 10.7.5
PT HD10 10.3.8
1x HD Native PCIE v1.05
16in 16out 192 i/o

I am updating my gear. All units are working but this is the first time I have put them all together.

So card flasher says to install drivers before Flashing card (have tried this while pt is installed too, same result.)
I Install Drivers. v90_r3_73493.dmg
I Flash the card and "power off" after its done.
Power up and install PT restart.
I start protools, PT load screen comes up
it cycles through the processes
but then at a certain point it says it cant find the 192 i/o.

Retry holding "N", it sees the HD Native card. But cant get past error msg.

Exact error msg.... "Unable to find an audio interface attached to the first HD card. Please check power and digilink cables. Click OK to rescan. Click cancel to open the playback engine dialog and select a different device." So ok, it cant see the 192 right? Wrong!...

Run digitest it sees both the 192 i/o and the Native PCIE

Have tried multiple un/installs even tried installing PT HD9 but still no luck. Have a friend who is and engineer as well he brought in his mac with similar specs. He gets the same problem and error msg.

Called digi the guy was really cool and helped me w/o charging me he even said it should work but could only do so much.

I know the 192 i/o is not supported by digidesign with HD Native BUT it was NOT on the "will not work" list on their site. I have also seen a few people that have "said" they have had success with this set up.

I find it hard to believe its the cable because it has never been the cable, ever, in any setup, but am willing to try it as a last resort.

192 ports maybe?? I have tried both of them, the comp sees them both in digitest.

Is the driver the correct version? I couldnt find a more recent one... Version too high?

So am I fooling myself thinking this will work? Or am I missing something? Really stumped here, you guys are my last hope!

Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!!
Thanks,
Nico

Oh one other thing I did get into pt when I changed the output to anything but the native card.
And I tried setting it back to the native card in session but the same error msg popped up.

I think there was certain Mac Pro models that fail to update HDN firmware. Search avid.com knowledgebase for it...

K so its not the card another engi friend of mine brought over his new appogee. Fired right up.

Guess the 192 i/o is confirmed a no go with HD native pcie fellas.

Please avoid my mistake and save yourself the time and money.

Been doing this nearly 20 years, only building my studio walls was a bigger pain in the ass!
Peace!

I am using a 192 I/O with Native PCIe

I am however using it piggied off a HD I/O16x16

I just did an install for a client, with a HD I/O 16x16, a piggied 192, and a second 192 on the secondary port of the HDN PCIe - that also works fine

I've heard of other using just a 192 with HDN PCIe

Try this: Run Digitest and update the firmware of the 192

I had to do that with mine before PT would recognize it

If your 192 firmware hasn't been updated in a while, that may be your issue

192 working fine here with Native pcie.
The firmware for the native card had to be updated with a PC, or using OSX.8 which I did not have.

I'm running a 2009 Mac Pro with HD Native PCIe and 2 x 192 with HD 10 and HD 11 with no issues.
I had to do a firmware update on the card when I first installed it but it booted right up and has been running like a champ ever since.
