Default PT load freezes at "build edit window"

Howdy cohorts! My PT 8.0.3 LE on Windows xp just started a weird thing out of the blue yesterday, certain sessions (now almost all recent sessions) won't load after getting stuck on the "build edit window"...I read one fix to hold the "shift key" while loading and that did work but disables all the plug ins, including virtual instruments...any clues why this started and how to fix it it proper? Thanks

Have you tried trashing preferences?

Here is a video explaining how to do it if you need it. It is made for Win7 but should be easily applied to XP.

ok...video seems pretty straight foward, can't wait to try that...the only other thing that has " sort of" worked was holding down the shift key while pt loaded, but that disables all the plug ins, and some i already had dis abled so that makes that fix confusing..hope the trashing prefs thing works!!! Thanks again ZH!

You may want to make a copy of the folders you are going to be deleting and put them on the desktop temporarily just in case there is anything in there that you might need.

I had saved my I/O settings and they got lost when I trashed preferences. When I had problems with my I/O setup I could no longer Import the saved settings. No biggie really, it just took up more time to reassign I/O's.

Trashing prefs did cure my initial problem though.

Another thing to keep in mind is plugin compatibility with the version of PT & OS being used. With each update Microsoft, Avid and any third party puts out often they can get out of whack with each other and trying to regularly keep up to date especially with plugins is where a lot of us fall down.

Good luck.

Thnx ZH! Ok, yeah wondered if they (the folders) should be saved eleswhere just in case...so putting them on the desktop will still do the fix? Or only once they are treally "gone"?

As for compatibility, nothing has changed on my rig for the last year, and i don't go online with it, so no automatic updates of windows or anything...not sure why that would be an issue now?

Putting the folders onto desktop should still do the trick.

Hi !

This problem has driven me out of my head but i found the solution !

(applause, please! )

It comes from your plugs, and certainly the Waves plugs.

- Remove all your plugs from the DAE foler. Place them in the unused folder.
- Restart Protools. Open your session. It should works.

- Desactivate (ctrl + click) ALL inserts plugins.
- Save your session with another name. Close Protools.

- Replace your plugs in the DAE folder.
- Restart ProTools.

- Open your sessions, all plugs should be desactivated, and will be loaded into the session only when you make them active.

FOR WAVES PLUGS ! do the following :

Before making them active, select ONLY multi-mono when its possible (most of time, when the plug is available in the multi-mono section) AND NOT Mutli-channel plugs.

Especially for API, comps, and many "little" Waves plugs, they cause the problem you had when selected as multi-channel.

Click on the desactivatd plug, select it in the multi-mono list, it'll be activated on loading.

(wonderful thing, your presets and settings stays the same as they were in multi-channel)

Do that with all waves plugs.

Save your session with once again another name.

Close and restart PT. Relad your session with multi-monoized waves plugs.

The problem should be solved. It worked for me. Took me 3 weeks to find out.

Enjoy !
