Default 2-3 sec delay before play..

I have 6.4 and 10.3.9 and mbox

every day this week I have come to work on PT and at some point in the session - 15 mins to an hour - after searching in the browser - PT will slow down and waits 2 - 3 secs after pressing play b4 starting playback..

In the middle of something now - so will keep quitting and restarting PT - usually this clears it for a while...

have time 2mrrw to attempt surgery..

is it the digibases?

or do I need to re - install PT?

this machine has been reliable for the last 2 years....

But had a few hiccups recently... weirdness with routing busses to aux inputs- 1+2 worked but 3+4 didnt.... then nasty kernal panic last week.

cheers

There's obviously no pre-roll set? I'd do the usual Digi troubleshooting palava & then clean your mac HDD (disk utilities > repair disk permission). After that, it's one for Digi...

Make sure the count-off is disabled. What do the play and stop buttons do when you hit play?

thanks guys!

not the count off ( 8 on numerical pad ) - I get a spinning beachball - heart in mouth... has it crashed? don't press play again whilst u wait - cos then it'll start playing and immediately stop... 4 more secs of fun!!!

palava recipes please?

will try the repair permissions - it has been a while.....

guess I will try dumping the databases... but it's a massive job - I got more than 120 gig of noise on here.... takes a while to index...

any thing else I can try before resorting to re- install PT 6.4 ?

thanks again

martian

Open Ended Record Allocation.... set it to 10 minutes (for most purposes).

DAE Buffer size = 2 (default)

check! I tried lowering the max rec duration already. tho the DAE was on 8 - if it happens again I will try changing the DAE buffer and see if that sorts it out...

Up til now it's been pretty stable - and I've frequently change things like the HW buffer's - etc to suit situation... better but riskier to record in 256

up against it today. will try the disk perms 2 mrrw..

the other thing is that after starting PT I'm getting a beach ball for a couple of mins and white windows - then everything is fine for a while.....

Not over the moon about being forced to take t breaks

thanks

martin,

Try running Disk Warrior, etc... rather than the simple, although sometimes effective Disk Utility. Seems like you have computer related issues rather than just PT. You may have to do a clean unistall. This always helps.

just did a quick fix disk perms...

don't have diskwarrior - it fixed a few things - but still takes a while to start up - I do have around 200 gig of indexed sound online at the min...

maybe I will re do the databases first.

will carry on my editing tonight and see how the more annoying in consistan 2-3 sec delay works ( after resetting the DAE engine buffer to 2)

cheers guys

Did you try lowering the max record time yet.
