thats awesome thank you ... 599.00 becomes 999.00 if you are Naughty and do not upgrade under the "Companies Plan"... and late fees, and etc .. we are the Customers .... i refuse to pay a penalty if i am late buying software ... sorry Avid but you had a good thing going and are now trying to be Adobe .. whatever .. lame is the only word i can think of .. or maybe criminal .. but that is a tad harsh i know ..

Avid, fix your own financial problems with your OWN money not OURS ..

i love it .. they come out with a plan for HD - leaked it and everyone complained .. they are now changing due to Customer Pressure - keep it up lads and lasses ..

Hello mlange,
I did the same cost comparison because in the production world folks tend to stick with a version for a long time because it works. With Avid, as you know, there's always much more not clarified than stated. In this case, unless I'm mistaken, the penalty for not upgrading HD was only stated on Avid's site for 2016. Unless I missed one of Avid's hidden statements that seem to sneak out, they've left a hole for 2017 and beyond, meaning it could be $5000 to upgrade in a few years. Unless I missed it.
Hugh

You hold most of the cards. You can choose to upgrade, or not. You can choose to switch to another platform or stick with your current version. You're not obligated to Avid.

Above is right.

Folks,
Main machine running here is running PT10.
I tried 11 and ran into a few minor glitches, so switched back.
We don't need faster than real time bounce, So I can't really think of a reason to "upgrade".
We have a native machine running 12 that seems fine, but the HD machines are running 10 and 7.3.
Ask yourself if you really need to do this...
No one I know is really running with 12 yet or doing the rental plan.

Hmmmmm I just read this:

Choose an upgrade with an Annual Upgrade Plan for $99/year (available the week of September 9th; Pro Tools 11 owners only)

So I might have to take up this offer...$99 a year not bad..
