Default m-audio firewire 1814 daisy???

Hey guys,

I am picking up my macbook 2.0ghz, 2gb Ram today and was wondering if I can daisy chain my m-audio firewire 1814 to an external hard drive and then to my macbook without getting popping, cracking, or any problems. I know with my pc it would pop and crack really bad when I tried this, will it do the same for a macbook??? also, how should I order it...1814-H/D-macbook, H/D-1814-macbook???

The reason for the Pop/Crack is because you've got both devices on the same buss and they're trying to share the bandwidth. On my good ol' Titanium Powerbook, I have a PCMCIA firewire card for FW400/800 that handles the drive with the 1814 connecting to the built-in FW port. Even with the Pro having both FW800 and FW400 already, they're still on the same buss and it will NOT solve the problem.

You should try to find a Firewire ExpressCard to guarantee both devices have their own buss. OTHER WORLD COMPUTING has several available, as well as SATA ExpressCards. In case you haven't already got an external FW drive, SATA would be a MUCH better way to go.

so i can't daisy chain...that sucks. by the way i have a macbook not a macbook pro...does that matter. I checked out the link...if i get a SATA FW DRive do i have to get a sata express card or will any firewire 400 or 800 work?...how do i install this. why do you say SATA is much better? any suggestions on a good SATA external firewire drive for recording???

Hi I own the exact set up you are talking about and it works great, I have a macbook 2.0 core duo 2gb ram, m-audio 1814 and a glyph 050 160gb hard drive. Here is my order: Hard drive-1814-macbook. The macbook can only power one firewire device but can send info seamlessly between the two at 400 speed only. I would make sure your hard drive has its own dedicated power supply, the 1814 can be powered via firewire from the macbook. Good luck, Scott

Firewire to USB adapters will not work, if you don't have a firewire port you might be able to get a Thunderbolt adapter though, if your Mac is so equipped. Also, the last version of OSX those were supported on was 10.6.8 I think. It might be time to look for a newer interface.
