got the horrible magic id error today. session file was fine, copied it to an external drive, and went to reopen the original file.... thought i could start a new session and import session data but it has the magic id error also. looks to me like the session file is corrupted.

winxp pro
pro tools 8
digi 002

my DAW is rock solid, and has been extremely stable with pt8. i can do 2 or sessions a day and no issue. this has happened to me in v 7.4, but it is rare that i have this issue, and i see others are also.....

any way to crack this session file open and import the data?????

this is not a system or plugin issue. somehow the session is getting corrupted.
i have done session files for two clients since this issue, with no problem....

No, that's a lame alternative. Your software is corrupting our operating systems?

And FYI, I haven't done an OS upgrade nor a Pro Tools upgrade. The error started for absolutely no reason related to that.

I used to have this with 5.1.1 and 5.1.3. Just reinstalled it but I remember there was something related with Waves 3.6 TDM bundle at that time.

Pro Tools will no longer boot, just hangs on "initializing Globals"

I guess I'll go REINSTALL MY OPERATING SYSTEM AND REINSTALL PRO TOOLS.

I've just seen this error for the first time on our studio 1 system here. Some students had been working on a session that had been started in studio 1, moved (on an external HD) to studio 2, and has now come back to studio 1 (via the same HD). They copied it to the media drive, and we get the "could not complete open session command because Magic ID does not match" error. They managed to find another copy of the session and carry on working with that, but I'm a little worried about this becoming a regular fixture. The students are in there so I'm not able to get a system profile right now, but the rig is as follows :

Quad-Core Mac Pro (mid 2009) / 6GB RAM / 10.5.8
Pro Tools HD3 8.0.3cs1
D-Command/2x192

When the students are finished in there I'm going to go and do some maintenance with permissions / prefs / databases etc, but I just wondered if anyone else had experienced this with a similar system.

Default Fix

Hey so I got this message after a crash. I restarted the computer / interface and tried to open the latest session file backup which kept giving the same error.

I opened the previous session file backup and hey presto, up and running again.
