Come to think of it, Fractal's not the only one giving free updates. Line 6 have always given free firmware updates, either by mailing an Eprom (Flextone 1 and Pod) or by online update. Some of those updates added features as well. They did a free update for the M13 that added a bunch of effects, as well as fixing a few bugs. Hmmmm...
Therein lies the rub:

11R - £700
3 expansion packs - £255
(3 is probably the most we can hope for with this hardware revision)

That's getting into AxeFX Standard (with all its free updates) territory, which is a dangerous place to be with them all being sold off second hand at the moment.

Well, yes perhaps where you live but down here in Oz I calculated 20 updates before I reached Axe FX Ultra territory new. And since there is still no word on the pricing of the Axe FX II it might even be considerably more. And even 2nd hand I'd be looking at around 4-5. And there will be no more major updates for the Axe FX Standard, according to the High Priest Cliff Chase, it's reached it's limit.

Still I do agree, I don't think we could expect anymore than 3. But if they were to add around the same amount of features and quality, well, I'd gladly fork over the cash.

I know what you mean. However, the 11R can only really be compared to the original AxeFX Standard, not the AxeFX II - just not a fair comparison at all (the II is over £2200 here, and has much more powerful DSP etc). I do believe that Cliff said he'd add updates to the original units where possible (ie where they're capable of handling the processing required).

Of course, it's unlikely that I'd ever get a Fractal unit, because the interface isn't exactly suited to quick adjustments at a gig.

I'm actually quite curious as to how much storage space the 11R has for additional models etc, though.

As am I. But I don't think we will get an answer as to how much, or, how much has already been used for obvious reasons . The Xpansion was 'quite' large though it must've eaten up a fair chunk of space.

Someone asked that after the ERXP came out and we could only get out of Chris that there was plenty of space for additional things - or words to that effect.

One thing that Avid has in its favour is it's amp modelling technology. The guys who worked on that tech deserve a pat on the back. Unlike Fractal they haven't been able to revise it ten times to get it were it is - it was there from the get go. Bravo guys, Bravo.

So what's the chances of another Expansion pack in the future

What are the chances Avid would like you to spend another 98.99

Very high, but it won't happen until they've gotten as many $98.99s as they can out of ERXP v1.

I'm actually quite pleased with the value of the expansion pack. I think it really added a lot of versatility.

Simple solution (from a business perspective) - make ERXP v1 a prerequisite for ERXP v2 (again, assuming the storage space is there).

IMO it would make more sense that the next ERXP cost something like $130-$140 for new users and $70-80 for users who bought the ERXP1.
