Default play dv movie out firewire port

is this option available for windows pro tools le users?
I believe it isn't, but someone from digidesign france told me I had to buy the "dv toolkit" to be able to use this option (free for mac pt users..)

It only works on a mac because quicktime for windows users is limited, it has nothing to do with protools, it's quicktime that is da problem ;-). DV toolkit is needed to use timecode in protools and to get MTC out of your midi ports. If ya don't want to pay it ya can use the trick i'm using but this only works for 25 fps, 1 frame = 40 samples ;-). An alternative to get a third monitor with video playback is to get those triple screen maxtors( of second grafic card) and put qt on one of them. Aslong qt doens't works with those firewire playback i don't gonna buy DVtoolkit anyway, just not worth the money.

Cheers
Bossi

thanks for your reply Bossi

that's what I thought..
+I've read the threads about matrox cards and QT pc limitations here on the duc since I ask this question..

I can't believe the guy from digi told me to buy the dv toolkit!!
what an ignorant c***!
If I had bought the option (900$$..) just to find out what he told me was BS, I would have been.. hmm..
yeah.. whatever..

I asked a friend that does DV about this and has used it a number of times on a PC. I have been looking into this my self for my studio.

ha? you mean your friend use the "play dv movie out firewire port" on windows?
I can't see this option in the movie menu.. even with the dv toolkit demo installed..
it works on my mac tho, without the dv toolkit.

I've posted this question on the post prod forum. thanks for the tip Carl

This is a serious shortcoming of LE for me.
I can't imagine why Digidesign haven't addressed this problem earlier.
It's not rocket science to get video to play out of a firewire port and, for me as a Windows user who edits video as AVIs, I be perfectly happy if the solution was that the Windows version of PT LE played AVIs out the firewire port.... like any other Windows video application can.

I also run Sony Vegas and the new version 6 allows me to play the video, full screen, to my secondary computer monitor or an external TV monitor. Yes it is a video editing application but it grew out of being a DAW.

I freelance using ProTools professionally, mostly HD systems on both Mac, and more recently, PC, because AVID Australia wouldn't install ICON consoles on Mac systems so ABC TV changed all of their ProTools to PC. I have recently been doing post on a childrens TV series for Disney on a DIGI 002 R on a Mac, with DV out the firewire, and now having bought my own DIGI 002 R I am disappointed that such a basic feature is missing in Windows.

Come on Digidesign get this debacle sorted out and offer the PC users the same functionality that the Mac users already have. Don't blame the Windows version of Quicktime find an alternate that suits the platform... for me that's AVI.

I've been waiting for this option "Video with XP LE" for a few years since buying the 001 and upgrading to the 002. 6.9 LE claims to work with the AVID Mojo though I'm still waiting to hear more on this. I upgraded from 6.7 to 6.9 but switched back as 6.9 has some issues with MIDI controllers. Just waiting on the CS updates that are sure to follow.

The nice thing about the 002 is that if you're running MAC & PC, you can quickly swap your 002 to your MAC because of the Firewire connection. This was not an option with the 001 PCI card.

I'm waiting to hear if anyone has tried video out with 6.9 with, say, the Canopus 110 instead of the Mojo as it's about $1500.00 less expensive.

Anyone who has experimented and has had results, please post as I'm sure there are many waiting to have the video out option for Windows XP.

Cheers,

Morgan Post

The TDM 6.9 is the one that works with Mojo. LE still doesn't. The only LE that I'm aware of that works with the Mojo is Avid ProTools LE 6.5.2 that came with Avid's Studio Package. Having said that, I'm pretty sure that any PT LE from at least 6.4 has been able to send video out Firewire through a transcoder (DV Cam, Canopus hardware, etc.) provided that it's QT or a DV stream of video. I don't think that AVIs will work.
