That is incredible. From 60% to 2 % cpu. I have to try this now.

Thanks. I bought mine used in mint condition for $1000 about 10 years ago and it is still running strong.

So, I’m getting this error message suddenly. Could it be that my HDX card has been moved from slot 2 to slot 3? Since my new Radeon RX560 graphics card doesn’t need 16 lanes, would there be any problem moving the graphics card to slot 3, theCrest to slot 1 and the HDX card back to slot 2?

I used to get that message (when my sessions were stored on my HDD ) and after a lot of diagnosis I believe it was usually with just 1 or 2 specific sessions, which lead me to believe it something in the session files itself.

But when I asked the same question about the HDN card being moved to slot 3 from slot 2 the answers I got indicated it would not be a problem, AND (crosses fingers) So far I have not gotten that message but I have not really done all that much with my system since upgrading.

I get those messages all the time. I have tried everything. I spent days doing a complete clean install and that might have helped but only marginally. PT crashes reliably on quit. It is probably down to some plugins that I use all the time. It is also very much down to graphics for some reason. Opening some plugins like Ozone 8 (with its busy spectrum analyzer) is triggering this as well. I get better performance, less of these errors, if I disable hyper threading on the Mac and uncheck the “use video engine” in ProTools. But just a little less errors. Long buffer settings help as well. I have to run at least 512. This on the mighty 12 core 3.33 processor.

Very interesting, I just instantiated Ozone 8 on the session that this started on. I will try your other suggestions to see if that will help.

Tack så mycket

I disabled hyperthreading and a new world opened up.
For the first time I was able to bounce to disk in real time without errors.

For fun I loaded up my HDX card with way more plugins than I would ever use. Mixed them in with Native plugins just to try and mess things up. I can't make this machine hiccup.

Thanks to everyone for your input on this journey.
