OK, so a basic question.
You think it's best going for a P35 chipset, as opposed to an earlier one?

This is all I really need to decide at this point, damn I hate computers....

Between the P35 and the 1066 Memory we saw a jump in raw available system DSP of around +20% percent which is nothing to sneeze at. Thats a pretty solid figure also

P35 is running well but not approved by Digi yet, they normally qualify most Intel chipsets so its more of a waiting gams. They HAVE qualified the P965 chipset which has been out for 2 years or so.
Will you notice the 20% decrease in power by staying with P965? Probably not. The P35 has the advantage of being 1 generation newer and offering native support for the next generation CPU's coming from Intel in the next couple of months. They have a slightly better upgrade path. Both choices are good. From personal expirence I wouldn't build anything other than the P35 at this point. Building a P965 based board isn't the going to be like your shooting yourself in the foot

The P5K E WiFi looks good to me.

Whatever choice you make should please you with the amount of power you will have available.

When you get a chance post your parts list and we will double check to make sure that you have no potential problems.

Ok the main System is this:

Asus P5K E Wifi M/B
Intel Q6600 CPU G0 Stepping
Memory - See below..
NVidia Quadro FX 1400 (I already have this)
320gb WD Sata2 16 meg cache partitioned, System/Drivers storage etc'
500gb WD Sata2 16 meg cache - A/V drive
Some other Sata drives for various things ( I have already)

Cooling Mods-
Cpu
Thermalright ultra 120 extreme heat sink
x1 Noctua NF-S12-1200 Fan
Vga
Thermalright HRo3 Rev A - VGA cooler
Coolink 921 92mm fan with fan controller

Undecided about the Modem/Router going to leave it till later
It's replacing a wired network, so no big deal for now.

Memory, I'm a bit unsure about not buying 1066 now.
But it's better for compatibility with the other machines to stick with 800
Here are my options.

4gb of this stuff

http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/...1b84de1bc83c0)

or I can stretch to 4gb of this stuff
http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/...e334e1b5685751

Almost there thankfully

just to throw this out there as my 2cents...

as sunburst said there is noticeable performance improvement goin' to the 8500/1066 ram. i don't know the requirements for your softsynths but do realize with the power/juice you are gonna get from your new quad, cached and paged resources are goin' to have a MUCH different response when they are called again by your quad system with SATA drives. just somethin' else to consider...

also sunburst, weren't there some back-to-back issues with the WD drives??? probably isolated but....

Thanks for the response.

I am quite sure I have no idea what you mean.

As far as WD Drives, I've used them for the last 5 or so few years now, never seen a single problem.
