Default With PT9, Are 00x Interfaces Now Technically Worthless?

Just a thought, since you can now use any interface. I usually buy with the intention of getting great resale value. Perhaps PT9 w/a great interface would be the best sale while getting rid of my 003 while the resale is still fairly high.

well you can still continue to use it with PT and its a great interface.

But yes I agree they have de valued their hardware.

I own a 003 and Mbox2 which as you say in a few years if you wanted to sell them it wont be as appealing because people will have the attitude of "whats the Point",

Unless there are drivers made availbale for these interfaces to also work with 3 party software like logic / cubase etc.

In that case I will consider selling my 003/PT 8 and go for a better interface. As you said. What's the point? I already have a MOTU USB Midi Interface, so there's no need.

Remember you have your monitor control on the 00x which does make it useful still. Also things like the alt source input is pretty handy. Not useless by any means.

Keep in mind, there are numerous successful companies who only provide hardware. These Avid boxes are now competing in that market. Whether these devices retain value will depend on how well Avid competes in that market. It's way too soon to predict what will happen in this brave new world... much less to assume Avid/Digi hardware is now worthless. They may very well excel in competition with other hardware providers.
Solid ASIO drivers are, hopefully, high on Avid's to-do list.

Seeing some build quality/cs bitching about the motu. Look before you leap! As I've stated in another related thread I started, Digi hardware has always been solidly built... Not to be taken lightly. I'm hoping their new HW continues that tradition but of course compete better in sound at least when using the baked in converters. My current PT rig is all digital going into a 192 digital via TDIF or into my 003 via adat. So I guess I've never known what the Digi sound is

I completely agree that if were talking control surfaces the playing field empties quickly... Leaving only the Avid/Digi stuff for the most part. I use controllers everyday, including Tascam, Faderport, Alphatrack and Novation Nocturn, but for heavy lifting ITB mixing it's the Digi stuff ruling.

Cool Re: With PT9, Are 00x Interfaces Now Technically Worthless?

Why change your hardware if it works?....I don't understand,I own a 002r & I can't see me moving to a different interface. The 002r does it's purpose I can make music & record lyric's.......No need to change for me. Save your money peeps & work with what you got.
I'm not even updating to 9 cause 8.0.1 does what I need it to do. I'm happy I didn't upgrade to 8.4 whew:)
I don't need ADC to make music or record lyrics,I keep everthing simple with external hardrives, vsti's,plugins, ect ect....But I wonder who's gonna be the first to complain about PT9

I just hope that they decide to fix their drivers, and keep the drivers updated over time, rather than just letting them die off. At some point in the life cycle it makes sense to let an interface die off, but if they don't keep the 003 usable for at least the next 4-5 years, there are going to be a lot of unhappy people.

I can just envision PT 10, which will be compatible with any hardware, but without any drivers for the digi hardware that work...
