Default Recording to boot drive might just have become feasible

Check out Seagate's new laptop drive!

2.5" format
450GB or 600GB!
10k RPM!!!
read seek time: 3.9ms!
write seek time: 4.5ms!

With native command queuing it's very feasible it could handle the full 18 tracks LE/M-Powered allows at 24/48 as the boot drive. Would speed the laptop up in general a lot too.

Those of us who do live multitrack recordings at "friend prices" find great relief in ways to make it simpler! Too bad my ole lappie is PATA...

As soon as the prices dramatically drop for SSD drives,
I am upgrading to SSD Drives.
Can't do it now, as they are currently extremely expensive.
But on the other hand they are faster than any current drive in SATA or PATA formats.

SSD drives don't have to worry about moving parts either.
and goes well with this case I am getting in July 2010.

http://www.coolermaster-usa.com/prod...roduct_id=2970

Along with a newer version of a CPU by AMD Phenom-II

Also, SSD drives do not heat up like SATA and PATA drives do.
which tends to burn them out faster.

Then I would believe Protools would fly like an eagle like its suppose to.

Someone needs to give one of these a try.

These are not laptop drives - They are blade server drives.

They are SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) and Fibrechannel. While I haven't checked prices your probably talking about +500.00 each.

I would wait for SSD's to drop a little more

....and I read somewhere that SAS is really a waste of time and money because of SATA 6Gb/sec soon to be the standard.
