I am happy to upload it to my dropbox for a while (just a free account) if anyone needs it, i have tested it, works perfectly, sierra recognizes is as the legit installer, no warning pop ups.

it will take me ages due to 2.5 mb/s upload so give me a day I guess.. if you really want it let me know and i'll start uploading now! This will work on any imac pro as imac pro's first came with 10.13.2 :) Then you would just need the 10.13.3 imac pro specific update and you'll have the best high sierra DAW experience possible.
That would be kind of you so I could install it on my Mac.

Regarding the PC purchase you made yesterday, please let me know how it runs with PT as the first time in 17 years I am looking to buy a PC aswell and looking at your extensive research I will look at as similar specs as I can get to yours if you get good vibes and of course performance for the money. I think that 1800 Aud is a very very good price for that unit and as you said in above posts, it has an all in one purpose and can be used for more than just a DAW

Thank You for all the research and testing you do for everyone here! Much appreciated and welcomed
Yeah it was just too cheap.. and the replacement model is 1 thousand more but has a 4gb 1050, not even a 1050ti.. 8GB RX580 in my one is closer to 1060.
Also has only 6 usb ports whereas mine has 7 including a usbc. (of course not thunderbolt as AMD).

I already bought a 1TB crucial MX500 to replace the 5400RPM, and a 512GB intel 760P to replace whatever the 256gb included is (which gets 1500/800 write read, not bad at all, but intel crushes that, 3200/1500).
Next, I need to buy one stick of ram, as i believe they ship with 16gb in one stick, which will make that way cheaper for me to upgrade. I also bought a seagate 8 TB backup plus with integrated USB hub. Basically everything I bought can be used in a good pc laptop which is what i will go with if I return the dell, so there is no loss either way.
The Asus Ryzen 1700 ROG was also going for a bargain, 1699 AUD. Exactly same specs as dell but 17" 1080P laptop, and 4GB RX580 instead of 8GB. Everywhere else has them for like $2400 still.
Total cost will therefore be just under 3K with everything, but the closest imac is the very base imac pro, which is a bit more powerful and has 1TB ssd and 32Gb ram. But it's also $7299 AUD. And i can never upgrade it. I'm going to install PT and everything on the system as it arrives, with all the extra bloatware and slower drives.. cause if i am happy with that, then i know will simply be just better once i switch the drives out and install fresh windows 10!
Theoretically, there should be no problems crushing both my current macs, about double is my guess.. DPC latency will be the key..Also, Ryzen 1 has less clock for clock single core than intel, but pro tools will use all 16 threads as will any daw.. And i checked out Ryzen 1700 daw reviews and people are very happy with it. The worst case scenario is it becomes a permanent video editing machine, with the 4k display... and gaming.. The only thing that will stop me using it in my main studio is if it's too noisy.. I know the fans spin up when gaming, but Dave Lee's review says it's quiet when not gaming or hardcore video editing.. If i just plain don't like it, i'll return it and get a nice intel PC laptop :) I am pretty set on windows cause of the bang for buck now and in the future.
And that I can upgrade things down the track when i can *afford them*. Not be forced to do it when i buy.

First thing I will install is PT 2018.7 and we'll see how we go! But it's 8 days away apparently

Cheers! (and ps of course i knew you were joking LOL!)

happy to, i will start uploading it when i go to bed, so it should be done by morning :)

Edit, wow, I can't believe this, my dropbox has used 1.71 of 5.38GB.

It won't fit.

if anyone knows how to extend free space as I have done in the past (through other emails signing up) please let me know..

or if there is any other FREE service you know of where I can upload a 5.02GB file.

Edit2, uploading to pcloud now.. says 12 hrs left.. yep.. that's how bad my UL speeds are. Cheers

no 9173 fixes.

when will they ever optimize the AAE.
its such a shame that we have to work with 40-50% of the CPU power, when using big plugin chains on the mix/master bus with 3rd party plugs.

so many pros have this problem. nothing from Avid :-/

all other things a fine here.

Win 10 pro here. Running smooth with no problems other than having to rescan my plugins several times during initial install to get PT to recognize them all.

Really, it's a total joke. It's pretty obvious that Avid are failing to deliver bug fixes, let alone cope with evolving operating systems.

And we're funding this comedy show, AAE has serious issues, and it feels like another Band Aid, is the solution.

You don't see these kind of blunders with other DAW's that have insanely efficient CPU usage... IT'S NEVER BEEN THIS BAD, is the opinion of this 20 year PT's professional.
