2018.7 update fixes the DSP spikes (mac)!
My system hasn't performed this well in at least 8 months. I can again record into complicated sessions at 24/88.2 with a buffer of 64 samples.
EDIT: Well that was nice while it lasted. 8 hours later (of course when musicians show up) the CPU started to go berserk with spikes and errors. Had to turn hyperthreading off again so I could record. Soooooo unhappy. EDIT AGAIN: Can someone (mod) delete this thread? The title is no longer accurate and people will find the entire premise misleading. Re: 2018.7 update fixes the DSP spikes (mac)!
The 2018.7 with the HDX is unusable, maybe worse than the 2014.4
I've just created a session with only 40 stereo audio files (80 voices) (from CDs) with no plugins and with no additional plugins installed since I've just reinstalled Pro Tools from scratch. I'm not able to play the session at 64 samples and at 128 the CPU jump to the middle of the meter. Whole different story by playing the session with the internal mac audio (Build-in line out) where all seems to work fine with the CPU around 5%. The weird thing is that by closing the edit window the CPU goes down dramatically (with the HDX). Maybe a graphic issue? But why this doesn't happen when using the internal audio mac?

Just to note, that I did a support ticket 3 months ago, and Avid recreated the issue on their identical setup.. but no bug fix..

-9093 after working for 10 minutes. HDN, 128 samples. Small session. Restart PT, immediate -9093 on playback.
2018.7 HD Driver installed. Peter

Curious, did you guys install the 2018.7 HD driver? I'm working fine here.

Re: 2018.7 update fixes the DSP spikes (mac)!
Obviously. But I see that you run the Thrashcan that has a more powerful video card and you don't use the HDX. Just because from my test I'm sure that this issue is related to graphic tasks given that with the PT windows closed the session that I'm using for the test run flawless at 64 samples. And this happens only when using the HDX

Yes, I do run a trashcan but I have more than one. I do have a chassis with (2) HDX cards as well and as stated I'm running fine.

Re: 2018.7 update fixes the DSP spikes (mac)!
Could you tell which settings you are using on HDX based sys?
Type of the session (I'm having issues especially on sessions with lots of audio files, more than when using VI), SR/bit depth, buffer setting, I need to investigate why this issue happens only when using the HDX and the 2018 family, on Yosemite with PT11 the HDX works very well
