2018.7 is finally here.. and no luck for me

Here's my findings:

https://youtu.be/ossPy-PADf4

Can report, HDX engine at 96k and 128 buffer. One audio track with no audio in the session.

Running a session, I get correct operation with the Edit and Mix windows shut, show them, and it's going crazy

I'm in the same boat. The 2018.7 is worse than the 2018.4. Definitively a problem with the HDX card given that the same session with the internal mac audio works fine, even at 64 samples (24/44.1). With the HDX things are better if you run PT with the edit window closed

Just to update, to be complete about the outcome of my issue.

This has been a 10 month journey of not being able to go beyond PT12.8.1 on my supported hardware (Mac 5,1 HDX2 All Avid HD I/O Converters), it's taken weeks of troubleshooting, pain and stress. But I'm thankful to have held on to my faithful Yosemite boot drive, that has saved my life.

In the past, ..I'd of just not upgraded to Ultimate, just waited for a new computer/HW and then moved up, that's how I've been for 20 years.. I never used PT9, just went from 8 to 10.

With the new subscription, and the fact, I'm running a supported mac and HD hardware, I was not happy with the performance after 12.8.1, and wanted to persist to get a resolve for my support money.

Up to now.. it's been CPU spikes all the way, but as stated in other posts, the unsupported 10.13.6, in combo with 2018.7, solves my issues, and my machine is running perfectly again without spikes... AND

Performance is back! (finally!)

Any OS before this, and it's spike city! Avid replicated my issue last May, so this issue is bigger than it seems on the outside, and they're clearly trying to work with the ever changing Apple operating systems.

I think Avid should better communicate with the subscribers/community with a level on honesty within the software.. I spent 4 weeks with Avid CS, and really we we're all wasting time, as it was clearly broken with software/OS incompatibilities.

Hi,

I've recently upgraded to 2018.7 and the low buffer recording is much better but the 9073 errors seem worse.

The big culprit seems to be Slate VMR, whenever I have a session that's running around 50% cpu or higher I get an error pretty much every time I open VMR with the track playing.

I'm thinking it's maybe graphics related but I don't seem to be having this consistent problem with other plugins.

Anyone else see this?

Chris

I'm just testing now on 2018.7 on 10.13.6 and low latency recording seems much improved.
Where I could not reliably record even a single track anymore at 96k 64 buffer a few versions ago, now I can again and my test with eight recording tracks zooming in and out is going well so far.
It looks like PT on Mac is finally getting useable to me again.

I've just tested it and they seem pretty much on par in my tests.

I recorded six takes on both Mac and Win8.1, same machine.
each had the same score:
five takes ran over 5-6 minutes after which I manually terminated recording
one take terminated recording with a 9093 error.

So we're back to 'not great but somewhat useable on either mac or windows' territory.
I'm both dad and happy to say that that is a considerable improvement.

I had this problem and I think I have solved it.

I am running Pro Tools HD 2018.10 on a MBP (mid 2015), 2.5GHz, 16MB Ram. I have 2 external 24" DELL displays - one running from the thunderbolt out, the other from the HDMI. Nice to have that screen real estate.

I usually dock the MBP and operate in clamshell mode, but I have been getting random CPU spikes, which I could clear by opening and closing the mix and edit windows. The CPU when sitting at around 60% would randomly spike up to 100% for no apparent reason, although opening and closing the windows led me to think it had to be something to do with the monitors or graphics.

So I experimented by unplugging the HDMI monitor and leaving the thunderbolt in. Bingo. The CPU level dropped by 30% immediately and no more spikes. So far so good. It looks like PT is having an issue operating with a display driven from HDMI.

This seems to be a new issue. I have run my rig like this on PT 11 and 12 and never had these issues. So if you are running an HDMI display, try disconnecting it and have a look at your CPU meter.

I forgot to mention I am running El Capitan 10.11.6

Not sure if there is an OS dimension to this issue.
