They were probably wording it like "now that we have faster SSD drives available" or something, it is easy to get the idea that APFS makes things faster but it isn't so. It just enables faster new drives take advantage of new sophisticated features.

Bummer. I was hoping to get something out of this fiasco.

I upgraded to Sierra latest with 12.8.3 and still no dice. Same issue which is a huge bummer as I don't want to fork our 299.00 for a license upgrade and move to Mojave just to experience the same issue.

For anyone interested, I did the update to 10.13.6. No word on performance but it did resolve the "64bit not available" issue for me.

I upgraded my macOS to high sierra and my Pro Tools to 2019.6 now I'm seeing AAE error 30001 insufficient resources when I try to launch the Sonarworks reference 4 plug-in. This is truly unbelievable!! Has anyone seen this before?

So the culprit is that little bit of software you have to download when connecting an iOS 13 device?
Has anyone found out what is actually happening in the background? I assume the Protools/plugin files remain untouched, but some system files and/or dependencies have changed?

Yes. iOS 13 software will break it.
No idea what else is going on
