Same here with 12.8.1 or 12.8.2.

Upgrading the OS to lastest Sierra version did not affect this in any way, good or bad. The general audio performance is also a bit unstable, I get more CPU spikes, even with low average CPU load.

I'm on a 2013 Mac Pro, 64GB RAM, 2 displays, Eucon 3.6 and now 3.7, AVID S3. Turning off EuCon also does not affect this in any way.

Strangely, some sessions work fine, others feel sticky and slow all over, even with only 12 audio tracks in them. And even without any plug-ins in the session!

After reading all this I went ahead and re-installed Pro Tools 12.7.1 - and I'm flying again! All is well.

Quite annoying that I have to pay the AVID tax again next week...a lot of money for very little progress.

Installed 12.8.2 on the iMac at the studio today. Same deal as my Mac Book at home, meters running real slow and unresponsive on the mix page. Also running 10.10 for the record.

Anyhow, switched back and AOK. Hopefully a fix soon and I don't have to upgrade my OS which seems to have just fallen of the compatibility chart.

I'm noticing this too. It's not generally that bad for me (which is interesting, considering how crummy my machine is), but there's definitely more moments of UI slowness than I saw in 12.8.1.

If 12.8.1 is stable and you can make music on it, I would just stick with it until you absolutely need to upgrade from 10.10. Avid has stated that dropping support for 10.10.5 on PT 12.8.2 was intentional because of a graphics related issue.

For what it's worth, macOS Sierra 10.12.6 is pretty mature now and is quite stable for many. You could always try a partition and test 10.12.6 with 12.8.2 and see how well it works for you.

problem is, 12.8.2 seems genuinely less buggy than 12.8.1

I was having very strange behaviour that seems gone

Since this many complaints about the last release of PT 12.8.2, why there's no fix for this problem???? And how long do we have to wait till Avid makes the decision to give people what they paid for??????

I am starting to think this is done on propose. Many people have timed their subscriptions to expire around December. A good way to keep them around is to give them something dysfunctional so they stick around in hopes of getting something better next time. Very possible

Yes, I am frustrated. I am not getting what I paid for and have every right to be. Avid might not need my money, but sure if this thing doesn't get fixed before December, I would say good by to Avid. There are lots of alternatives and I won't spend anymore money on something that I can't use.

Maybe some of you think what the hell are you waiting for then? Well, I am waiting to get what I paid for. Please, understand that I do understand that people have different systems and Pt versions may and may not work depending on what system you have. But this is a common problem for everyone at seems.

I've been a PT user since version 6 and I would hate to go a separate way. It looks like it's not worth it anymore.

Many thanks. Yes, I was sticking with 10.10 due to the reported GUI issues with 10.11. It seems my hand is now forced as 10.10 is not only unsupported but also non functional. I'm not looking forward to upgrading as changing versions is far more involved that for just Pro Tools. So hopefully 10.12 is the way forward.

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to share my experience:

https://streamable.com/2z5l5

Things have been intermittent - smaller sessions run perfect, large sessions don't.

Of course it's Avid fault, it's their new incremental version which is flawed, 12.8.1 works just fine on the same OS. Now I think they were pretty much aware of the gfx situation and launched it anyway, no wonder why they dropped Mac OS X 10.10 support arguing gfx issues.

Pretty sluggish specially considering playback is stopped.

Now I'm running a new trashcan Mac Pro (Late 2013) 3.5 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5, 2 x AMD FirePro D500 3 GB, hooked to a single Apple Thunderbolt Display.

Tried clean install of macOS Sierra 10.12.6 and PT 12.8.2 R2, I open Pro_Tools_Demo_Session_11_0_0_Multi_79651.zip, hit play, scroll on edit windows, and there goes the sluggishness, it's like I was running Windows 10 on a Pentium III on no brand motherboard with integrated gfx and shared memory from 2GB RAM .........

Then I erase everything, I clean install macOS High Sierra 10.13 and PT 12.8.2 R2, and here we go again, exact same result.

I erase PT 12.8.2 R2, then clean install PT 12.8.1, keeping macOS High Sierra 10.13, and voilá, everything back to normal, no more gfx sluggisness.

Some will say, well... settle for 12.8.1 and stay happy and productive, and sure I could do that, but the problem is that I keep paying to keep my Annual Upgrade Plan alive, and I just wish I could make use of it, and get the VERY FEW improvements we non-HD users are being offered...

EDIT: Sorry about the rant, I am so frustrated because I received a reply from Avid Support saying that the case I opened to report the bug was dropped because my Support Plan has expired, and I was kindly offered to renew it.
