Preamp with 003 Rack?
Hello all,
I have a 003 Rack and a Shure SM58 mic. When I try to record myself playing guitar, I have to turn the input knob to the max and still I have to play hard to make the system hear me... Do I need an other preamp??? Sorry for my poor english and thanks for your help! Regards, neuhaus3000 |

Re: Preamp with 003 Rack?
Electric or acoustic guitar? If acoustic, I would recommend a decent condenser mic(SM58 might be okay on an speaker, but not a good choice for acoustic for several reasons). You have tried the Mic/DI button on the front of the 003? You are using the XLR inputs of 1 thru 4?

Re: Preamp with 003 Rack?
Hello Alby,
I'm using the XLR input... It's an acoustic guitar. Yes, I have enabled the Mic/DI button... I will look for a condenser mic. Is there one that you recommend? How much do I have to spend to have a descent mic? Thanks again for your help! neuhaus3000 |

Re: Preamp with 003 Rack?
Lots of decent small condensers in the $175-300 range. Rode and AT are 2 brands to look into. More money can certainly get a better mic(Miktek C5 would be my suggestion in the $500-600 range). But that higher price range can also get you a decent large diaphragm condenser that could work good for both vocals and acoustic.

Re: Preamp with 003 Rack?
I have a Dynamic mic that needs an impedance converter/transformer, because of impedance mismatch.
Is possible your dynamic mic may need this.. but i,m no expert and not sure if the Digi 003 caters for this. Either way its good info to have. http://www.fullcompass.com/category/...rmer-Type.html Edit..changed link |

--- The everything set up properly, includes the Mic/DI button in 'Mic' mode, a good known to work microphone cable, not too long, a good known to work mic (try another SM58 if you have it), mic gain turned well up and the channel volume, master fader and monitor volume levels all set appropriately. Try each of the XLR inputs/preamps in case there is a fault there. And making sure any plugin processing is not quieting the signal (disable any plugins and check). Darryl |
