Default DA88 vs. DA38?

I looking to get a digidtal audio deck to use in my PT set-up. I essentially need a deck which will sync with my AMIII/Digital Time Piece set-up. Can anyone summarize the primary differences between the 88 and 38? Particularly in terns on sync. The DTP has sync output specific to 88.

The 88 and 98 have T/C tracks the 38 does not.The 98 also has input for a ref. video clock.

Using a DA38 or DA88 will make no difference when used with the DTP. You just hook the DA38/88 up to the DA88 port using PW-88 cables and you are set. In a non DTP world, you would have to use the DA88 with an SY88 synch card, but that's the nice thing about the DTP, since you can get by without SY88 card. You can use the DA38/88 as a master, or use ProTools as a master, and the DA88 will slave. The synch isn't as acturate as using black burst video, or USD, but it does work.

Thanks Ron and Robert.

Any opinions on the DA78. It seems to have every thing a souped up DA88 has for 2500 - and at 24bit.

thanks again

DA38 is cheaper, weighs less and sounds better (newer generation of converters) than the DA88 but doesn't have all the sync options.

DA38 doesn't need a fan. DA88 has got a built-in fan, so it isn't as quiet as the DA38.

I'm not sure which one sounds better. I use external ADCs.

The 78 costs less than a comparably-equipped 38 plus has timecode but no 9-pin or video converter like the 88, just word clock. The built-in SPDIF output makes it a no-brainer.

I'm waiting for one myself.

The 38 sounds better than the 88 and the 78 should sound better yet because of the much better converter chips.
