video out via matrox p750 with pt 7.3

Hi everyone...

i was using pt 7.0 and was getting video out (quicktime 6.3 - sorenson 3 codec) on my parphelia's 3rd monitor out on a 15" lcd tv....but, my Pt 7.3 didn't accept QT v. 6.3 so i installed QT 7.X and now i can't get a video out... is there a work around for this?

Just update to the new Powerdesk driver, you can download it straight from the link you find HERE . You'll have to update to Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 too. It works like a charm now, as this driver has been certified as Digidesign Pro Tools compatible, so you won't have to do the "hide QT window" trick anymore. It automatically outputs the video full screen to the device connected (I have a standard CRT screen now, I'll soon update to a 42" plasma screen ). On top of that in PT 7.3 you have a preference that will switch QT7 High Quality/Low Quality playback on or off for optimum DV image.

Thanks...but, i have a small problem.. i did all you wrote..but, i get nothing...other than the color bar of desk utility...is there a certain version of qt (i tried 7.x) or is there a certain code for qt ( i used sorenson 3)??...Can you give me the name of the file you downloaded from matrox site?...Maybe i downloaded the wrong thing...Sorry for being too much trouble.

Hi Lorenzo! Glad to see you're still keeping loyal to your Matrox card. And I'm grateful that you've also saved me all the hard work of checking this problem out cos it's looking like I'll be moving over to 7.3 soon too myself (and so leaving the 001 behind )

The driver I downloaded and installed is THIS . Then I updated the Microsoft .NET Framework and that's it. I don't know if there's something with the QT version: I'm still on 6.3 because I've not upgraded to PT 7.3 yet, (I'm using 7.1 right now), but it doesn't seem so, as several users from the Post and PTHD on Win forums report that it's working fine even with QT7. if all you get is the color bars on your external screen there must be something with the settings. Check the setup procedure in the Matrox power desk utility and be sure to have the "Pure DVDmax" option enabled. Also, check that your preferences in QT are set like described here:

QT settings, Video: safe option won't do, check everything else exept DirectDraw on secondary monitor.
Also under connection, check "allow multiple streams".
Matrox Powerdesk:
Multi-Display setup: 2displays, streched mode+ 1 feature display
Video Playback settings: Use video overlay-checked
Use PureVideo/DVDMax-checked
Assist video motion compensation-unchecked
PureVideo/DVDMax settings: Preserve aspect ratio, video window, 4:3
Uncheck all advanced settings (preserve source cropping etc.)
Help> Troubleshooting Settings: check the first two.

Not all of these make a difference, just try them.

I have mine P750 set up like this and it works great. Let me know how it goes.

Of course I'm still loyal to the P750, it's never been better than now, it seems that finally Matrox and Digidesign started talking to each other. The driver they just released is "Certified for Digidesign Pro Tools" as you can read in the link I posted above to the press release.
It seems that the noise we made here and on the now closed Matrox's forum paid off. I sent them an email to let them know my appreciation, and they replied, this tells me that they listen to their customers' feedback and improve upon it. I'm so glad I have this setup working now that I'm thinking about a big plasma disply to get the most out of mixing for DVD releases (and for my own geek satisfaction ).
On top of that even Digi stepped up to the issue with QT playback quality and added a preference for it in the 7.3 release, isn't it great?
