Recreation of the Pro Tools Experts Benchmark Test (iMac Pro)
Hi,
I am a bit bored atm and trying to recreate the benchmark test according to this setup: https://www.pro-tools-expert.com/hom...r-test-session Mr. Ivey started 256 instances of Boom with one single click (https://youtu.be/PYHMinrhh3o?t=159). How can I manage a simultaneously start of all those plugins. I have to do this with every single instance manually (push the green play button within the plugin) to get any sound out of it. Regards

Re: Recreation of the Pro Tools Experts Benchmark Test (iMac Pro)
I was able to extend the test session with my 10-core iMP, running PT 2019.5, Mojave 10.14.5 without any errors as follows:
o 128 audio tracks with channelstrip and d-verb enabled. o 39 (instead of 7) of these channels with avid eleven running. o 256 instrument tracks with boom enabled Although, i was not screen recording at the same time a 10-core makes sense if it comes to heavy plugin load. More cores, more "worksharing". Weeks ago I was told by someone, that "more cores do not have any big effect because they are mostly sitting on the couch". Disagree. PS: Maybe PT 2019.5 is now more efficient with respect to higher core count as well. If someone is considering buying an iMac Pro, go for the 10-core instead of 8-core or higher.

Re: Recreation of the Pro Tools Experts Benchmark Test (iMac Pro)
Quote:
I said it depends entirely on your session. If you have many tracks loaded with plugins, that are not reliant on or connected to each other, then that load can be spread across several cores, the more the better. If however you have many tracks bussed together and the respective Aux-tracks are doing a lot of the work, then a higher clock count is more beneficial than a higher core count. In my mixes (post, mind you) I use pretty long bus chains. And therefor my 6 core Hackintosh that runs at 5GHz is able to do an offline bounce in almost half the time my 8 core iMac Pro does for certain sessions. So, yes, in your "benchmark test" that - at least for me - has no real ties to any real world scenario, the 10 core does a better job. And I'm pretty sure the 18 core would do an even better job. This is unreflected nonsense and not sound advice.

Re: Recreation of the Pro Tools Experts Benchmark Test (iMac Pro)
I still highly recommend going for the 10-core. If you are willing to spend this money into a mac, throw a little in the bargain and go for 10-core instead of 8-core. the overall benefit is worth it.
