Because it's only supported on Mac OS.

Well I know its not supported.
But as I understand people have got it to work.

And to be honest most pc builds aren't supported, but still works!

Possibly, but I imagine only as an extended desktop. Not sure how you could get video out of PCIe if that option isn't given to you in Pro Tools.

So by not supported,in this case, means that the option isnt even available?
I was under the impression that not supported meant that it wasn't tested therefore not supported.

Have anyone read the reason why its not supported and not even available.

As I understand it Avid cant test every type of Windows Build and support it. But most build work, some better than others.
But you can still use a third party audio device supported or not.

It should be the same with Black Magic cards?

Steinberg manage it by using a standard Quicktime engine. Anything supported by Quicktime (so BM and AJA), Nuendo can use. Avid choose to use their own implementation of Quicktime, and therefore have to support cards specifically. I believe this is why Quicktime playback in ProTools isn't as good as it could be, but I guess they'd rather you use Avid MXFs.

Why BM cards are supported in Mac OS X and not Windows, however, is bizarre!

Im not sure about this, but I think I read somewhere that the BM cards work in Media Composer!

They do indeed. But remember, that has a different video engine to Pro Tools.

Yes ofcourse.
But if protools have problems with quicktime for example and media composer handles it well. Maybe the two teams could have a meeting and sort it out :)
