Default Instrument vs Midi - Tick vs Sample

Hello Freinds
How cool are instrument tracks!
Im just learning about them now!
Can you explain the difference between 'tick' and 'sample' based midi, instrument, audio tracks
And if it is possible to alter a track from 'tick to sample' 'sample to tick' at anytime
Thankyou
David D

It seems you cannot bus from an instrument track to an audio track?
It maybe best to stick with a midi track > outputed to a softsampler on an audio track
As aposed to using the softsampler on an instrument track
With the need to bus to an audio track via an aux track?
Not sure what the deal is here...
Any tips appreciated

David set the MIDI I/O (Instruments View control) to the softsampler and buss the Audio I/O to a Audio track.

Filo... i think your talking about Plan A which i got working

Plan A was:
I had placed a softsampler instance on each Audio track
The Midi track outputs succefuly target the softsamplers on the Audio tracks
This method works npz!

So for example
Audio track 1 = Bass Drum Sampler
Midi track 1 = Bass Drum midi notes target the Bass Drum Sampler

Audio track 2 = Snare Drum Sampler
Midi track 2 = Snare Drum midi notes target the Snare Drum Sampler

However i then experimented with Instrument tracks
Which seemed really cool at first
Becasue you could combine the midi notes on the actual track with the Softsampler
And the midi notes automaticaly targeted the softsampler inserted on the track
Then wanted to bus the audio from the instrument track output to an audio track
But this does not seem possible???

The instrument track can bus to an AUX track but not an Audio track?
If i have to route the Softsamplers outputs directly to an audio track
Well... back to square 1 man
Mulitouts (for WAV samplers) just arent working
I cant select the plugin-samplers outputs from the audio tracks
They either dont show or dont show correctly...

Its all [bleep] up man
So then i cannot use the instrument tracks???
Back to plan A

It is possible; I do it every freakin' day. Maybe you just have no idea what you are doing?

When you bus from ANY track to an audio track;
  1. the audio track must be record armed
  2. The input mode should be "Input Only".
  3. make sure you are choosing the same bus for the input of the audio track as you are the output of the instrument track.

Lol
Relax freind you are right...

I didnt have the track record armed

Thanks for the solution

Can you explain the advantage of using:

-method 1: an instrument track with a softsampler inserted on it
to
-method 2: a midi track pointed to a softsampler inserted on an audio track

Is their no difference
Except that with
'method 1' you will have 5 free insert slots on the audio Track
'method 2' one of those slots is used by the softsampler?

I think i prefer 'method 2' becasue the audio track does not have to be record armed to hear the audio and see the volume meters

The reason i wanted the audio track (even tho i dont want it record armed)
Is i have my WAV samples for each softsampler located in bar 1 of the audio track
So from there i can edit the samples > update the samplers
And everything is organised

However I probibly could set aside a different audio track
With all of my samples playlisted on this track
And simply bus to AUX tracks from the instrument track instead...

Actualy i think i might do this instead.

But i still need to know if an instrument track is as good as a midi track
Does an instrument track lack any features of a midi track?

Thankyou
David D

Welcome back!
How do i assign an Instrument tracks midi inputs ???

In the case of a Midi track
I can assign the Midi input to channel 1...

Is this possible on an Instrument track?
To have only channel 1 midi notes coming from a hardware sampler?
There seems to only be audio input...
No midi input?

Thankyou
David D
