I can’t imagine this halving of tracks is deliberate. It’s more than likely a bug... a pretty bad one though. Not the kind of thing you want to be waiting around another 3 months for it to be fixed. They’d wanna issue an update straight away.

CS releases anyone?

Are you sure about 128 stereo for vanilla? Somebody here posted a link to a session they had that was huge and because I have vanilla everything over 64 tracks was put in 'blue dyn' mode.

Yes, it is. Here is the comparison. Only ultimate software is about voices, first and standard count tracks. It says 128 tracks at 48k

Yes, I just reversed to 2020.5 and voices show 256. And I can have 128 stereo audio tracks in vanilla.

Agreed. Same Session in 2020.9 vs 2020.5

But that charts says 128 voices at one voice per mono track and 2 voices for a stereo track. Sardi's assertion was that the count was 128 mono or stereo at 48K.

Nope. It says voices/tracks but voices are only count on ultimate software. Standard and first software only count tracks.

Which makes me wonder why they even show the voice count on system usage chart. You cannot have 256 mono tracks even if it says 256 voices available.

I regularly use 2019.6 and it doesn't have a 'resources' indicator in that window. Opened a session in 2020.9 and it does have a 'resources' line and it shows x of 128 I run at 44KHz

Where do you see that distinction made about Ultimate versus standard and First?

Here's what it says about voices:
What is a voice?

A voice is a single audio stream that roughly equates to one mono audio track. A mono audio track will use one available voice. A stereo track will use two available voices. The voice limit is Pro Tools' capacity to play back a multitude of simultaneous voices. The higher the voice limit, the more tracks you can play back in Pro Tools to work on bigger, more demanding sessions.

Oh, Pro Tools. I used you for almost 20 years before I finally broke free to the land of infinitely more features and flexibility for infinitely less money. Every time I get a peak at what's in an update (now we, too, finally have track folders like the other DAWs, and we'll allow you to use more tracks with a track pack!), and the problems that come with them (voice count halved, oops) I thank my lucky stars.

Now, I understand plenty of folks are perfectly happy, and the program does what they need it do do, and it looks pretty and all that, and that's fine n' dandy! But man, if anyone finds themselves feeling kinda weird about what you get for your dough, and you're not in a position to be a slave to "the industry standard", you can do infinitely better.

But enough about that. I hope they get a fix for this update issue soon!

This is pure Friday entertainment...how the crap is this even possible.
Lucky I didn't update, but wait, what did I pay for? That's the infamous AVID downgrade plan right there.

OH and the voice count cut in half is probably deliberate as that's exactly what's
written in the product comparison.

128 mono tracks. They've removed (OR stereo.) sail away sail away sail away..
