Default BFD query

I have BFD.
I have BFD XFL.
I have BFD 8 Bit Kit.
I have it all on my OS drive.
I now have a mere 8 gigs left on my OS drive. So much, in fact, that I can no longer perform a defrag on that 80gig drive.

I've not been able to get a clear answer on this.

FXpansion suggests a dedicated drive for BFD.

I've heard others say to store the audio from BFD (in my case, about 50 gigs) on another drive.

Anyone using BFD that can shed some light as to what folder(s) from within my main BFD folder should be moved?

I have an 80g OS, 120g Audio drive, and two external 250g Firewire drives.

PTLE 6.9cs4, P4 3g, 1g RAM

EJ,

I've been thinking of doing the same thing. It looks like the BFD/Data file would be moved to the other drive & then linked to from within BFD. Not entirely sure though. Maybe Angus will chime in or someone whose done it.
BTW, how are the add-on kits? How useful do you find them?

Scott-

Both the add-ons I have are great, ESPECIALLY the 8 Bit Kit.
It's kind of like having a programmable "Turbulent Filth Monsters" on hand (assuming you're familiar with that loop collection).
So many cool, trashed out, oddball sounds. I've been playing with it non stop since it arrived yesterday.

The XFL is also cool as all get out. MANY new kits, specialty snares, percussion elements, etc.

I just read that there's yet ANOTHER expansion package...55gigs!!!...that just became available.

Knowing me and my addictive nature, I'll probably wind up with that too.

Scott-

I have it working, it's just that it's all in my OS drive.

I'd like to know if I'm supposed to move all of it, or just the audio from it.

Can't get a clear answer from FXpansion tech support

I'd recommend transfering the whole deal (program + Sample library) to a seperate drive.

You typically spend less time linking the software to the samples this way, and if you choose a portable drive as your medium then you do not have to go surfing for the software later to run the BFD.

Just my .02$

Regards,
-Scott

Move the whole BFD folder. The "program", from the point of view of use in Pro Tools, lives entirely in the RTAS plug-ins folder (a set of *.dll, *.dpm, and *.dpm.rsr files). The stuff in Program Files is just for the standalone, ReWire and DXi components. If you want to use the ReWire after you've moved it, you'll need to run the BFD ReWire applet and disable and re-enable the plug-in in order for it to update its location.

Next time you launch BFD, it should ask you to point it at the new location of the folder.

HTH,
Angus.
