Default The most stable MacOs/PT combo now?

I'm upgrading my macpro5,1 to 6,1 trashcan.
What do you guys think is the most stable MacOs/PT combo in this age.

I can basically have any combination, OS Yosemite~the latest and PT(regular one, not ultimate)12~the latest.

My current setup is this. I get many cpu spike/overload errors despite the 1024 buffer and a few crashes everyday. And offline bouncing is really slow. I do film score so lot's of tracks/plugins and VEPs (Vienna Ensemble Pro). Samples are read from pci 6g ssd.

Mac OS10.10.5 (on sata ssd)
Protools 12.5.0
Mbox Pro 3
Mac Pro5,1 Mid2010
2x2.66Ghz -6-Core Intel Xeon
Ram 64GB 1333Mhz DDR3
ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB

My new Macpro 6,1 I'm ordering is this.(I can get any OS):
2.7GHz 12-Core
128GB Ram 1066MHz DDR3
Dual AMD FirePro D700 GPUs

I heard PT 2019.5 & Mojave 10.14.5 combo is very stable a few times.. has to be that exact combo?

Any advice can be helpful. Thank you!!

Yes, that is the one you want to install if you are not adventurous enough to try Catalina. I myself have even more stable after very clean install of 10.15.4 & 2020.3 but it took me half a week to install everything.

Thanks JFreak!
PT2020's folder tracks function is very attractive. I saw a few people say 2019.5&10.14.4(or5) is the best so I guess that's the way to go..
I didn't find many posts about this topic surprisingly.

I guess it's because not many people have gone thru all or very many possible combinations and tested them, and also, because many, when they find a setup that works "don't fix it" and stay there, PT being the fragile lady that she is.

I am one of those people who have used almost any PT & OSX combination you can think of. And from my experience these are the most golden combinations:

PT 6.4.1 & OSX 10.3.4
PT 8.1.1 & OSX 10.6.8
PT 12.4 & OSX 10.9.5
PT 2019.5 & macOS 10.14.5
PT 2020.3 & macOS 10.15.4

Notice the big gap between PT12 and PT2019. That was the time when Apple ducked things up.

I would stay AWAY from Catalina if you are doinf serious work as it is still a Flustercluck and have many errors spewing up on 30K+ new macs pro’s here so we still do 80% of the work on our Mojave 12 core Trashcans and PTU 2020.3

Catalina and PT is NOT ready for a dance yet and with this snail pace of drip releases we are prolly looking at fall before they can love again.

No Professionals working in serious studios has time to be ”adventurous” as ”someone” put it!

Which version of Mojave are you using now with 2020.3?
And do you think 2020.3 is more stable than 2019.5~12 on Mojave?
Thanks!

10.14.5 latest Mojave version and PT Ultimate 2020.3 but its the same with vanilla PT so you dont need Ultimate to have a stable setup.

And IMHO 2020.3 is More stable HERE but with all the different setups out there it is not set in stone it will work for everyone. All our Macs are for AUDIO only so that will have an impact aswell depending on what other apps you have and interface drivers etc. We run 4 of the new Apollo X Series and a HDX2 setup but almost never use the HDX2.

So it all depends. Try 2019.6 and 2019.12 and see what works best for you but I would stay on Mojave and try 2020.3 first before the older versions.
