Damn Monitors Why won't you do what I want you to

I am trying to hook up my Event studio monitors through 001 to use not just for recording but also for listing to CDs that I know and watch movies for the purpose of getting to know my monitors and how they sound playing the music that I know the best. I downloaded the drivers from the digidesign site and installed them. Next I went to my control panel and set the default sound playback device for protools 001 chanel 1 and 2. OK, so I thought that this would work but no. CDs and DVDs still play through my craptacular computer speakers. Please help, thank you.
