And I can say that I will not have the internet service capability to be able to use cloud collaboration from my house. Not everyone lives and works in a major metropolitan area with 100Mbit fiber runs to our building, like Avid seems to believe every one does.

Re: Yes to cloud collaboration!
It absolutely does. Read the comparison chart at Avid.

Re: Yes to cloud collaboration!
This is an excellent question! I'm forwarding this to Avid and let's see how much (if anything) they can tell us without revealing too much...

Re: Yes to cloud collaboration!
Wouldn't end to end real time encryption and decryption massively increase the processing load on both the system and the internet connection? I can't see that being a viable feature for anyone.

Re: Yes to cloud collaboration!
No. Streaming requires buffer anyway so it's a non-issue (IMO). Encryption/decryption however requires some variable amount of CPU resource.

There are several video and audio chat apps that offer encryption and even run on smart-phones. Some so strong that even the NSA can not read it (Redphone/Signal for iOS). Even FaceTime offers some form of transport encryption. I think it's an essential feature for everyone these days. People working in post-production in particular. Frank.

Re: Yes to cloud collaboration!
I think this side of the service should be clearly communicated. Claiming "It's secure!" is very easy.

Re: Yes to cloud collaboration!
I know. Just that clearly Avid cannot reveal the whole spec, because that would mean it is not secure any longer

It's a common misconception that open-source equals insecure crypto. In fact the exact opposite is true. All the crypto-techniques that the NSA can not read are based on open-source and free code. (PGP/GPG, TOR, RedPhone/Signal, OTR over Jabber etc. etc.). It's the proprietary systems that raise suspicion Secrecy doesn't necessarily increase security. It's the proprietary standards that can be worse because they can not be audited or checked for flaws in the code. Keeping that a secret only raises concerns and suspicion and is going to hurt them in the long run. The best way to avoid this is to communicate openly how they deal with our data. Because that's what it is. It's our data or our client's data that they want us to store in their space. It's not a good idea to be secretive about where and how it's secured. Frank.
