Default Liquid Saffire 56 and Digi002

Wondering if a 56 can be routed for Analog and DIGITAL external processing sends and returns through ADAT.
The Analog should be no problem but I'm wondering if I can do a digital send from the 002 ADAT pass through the 56 and return.

Also, Can it be done using the second ADAT ports on the 56.
and can the 56 be set to be the clock source.

The 56 manual is not too helpful on exactly what can be routed/clocked where.

I don't think the 002 can send adat - my 003r didn't just receive

I don't think the second set of adat connectors are functional in anything aside from higher than 96 K sample rates - could be wrong on that second point but dont think so

The 56 manual is not too helpful on exactly what can be routed/clocked where.
Which of the two is your main interface (the one that is plugged into the computer)? The LS56 can receive and send on both adat (it has a physical jack for each of the adat in 1 adat in 2 adat out 1 adat out 2), so if your 002 can send it's audio through it's adat port, the LS56 can receive it. You need to go into the routing section of the mix control (click on the pre-amp button and select router) From there you will see that you can select for each track in the mixer the input of adat 1.1 to 1.8 and adat 2.1 to 2.8 these needs to be set in the mixer for zero latency monitoring. Now in Pro tools what you're going to see in your I/O set up is your liquid saffire IP 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, spdif L-R, and then Adat 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, loop 1-2. Obviously you're going to be able to rename them as you see fit. But what you need to remember is that 9-10 and forward is your adat input 2 in the liquid saffire 56.

Now for the clock source, unless your 002 can receive an external clock through the adat port, you won't be able to set the LS56 as the clock source. Your best bet is to set the 002 as the clock source (through adat if it can send it) and then you set the ls56 to external adat 1.. or adat 2 depending on where you plug the 002.

If you're not planning on sending any signal back to the 002, you don't need to set a cable in the adat outs of the ls56 and you don't need to worry about the adat 1.1 to 1.8 and 2.1 to 2.8 in the output section of the mix control. If you're planning to do a return then you have to plug a cable in the adat out of the same number, and then set up the appropriate adat output in the mix control.

Also you have to remember, if you want to send 8 channels of adat from the 002 or the ls56, your sample rate has to be at 48 khz.

I only use the 002 as a control surface (preamps and converters not so great), but it has to be the audio engine on Windows so my audio is all going through ADAT.

No problem with the 002 ADAT going I/O or receiving a external clock from ADAT.
I use it with an external effects unit this way now but I would like to have the effects available through software routing on the LS 56 so I don't need to move cables around.

I expect this would work if the LS56 were my main interface and I was sending the audio to PT through Firewire, but it's not clear if the LS 56 will let me route it's ADAT inputs to a another ADAT device and return them.

I also want to do the same to send and return but use the LS56 D/A - A/D to connect analog effects.

The LS56 will let you do it. Wasn't sure if you were using the 002 rack or the surface. You could potentially set the LS56 as the engine and simply set the 002 as the controller in the peripheral. And you can also use the LS56 as your audio engine in windows, works actually well with that.

For the analogue effect, you will see that the LS56 has 10 outputs (2 of those are for the mains) at the back in TS jacks. It also has 10 inputs in ts jacks at the back also. So you will be able to use it to send and receive the analogue signal to and from your effects.

Basically I would suggest you take the time to study the mix control router panel, it's not obvious at first glance, but it's not long to learn to use the way you want to do it.

The 002 console driver won't play with another device as the engine so I'm stuck with it - if it works at all in 11

Re the 002 as a controller, how much of it do you really need? Faders could be covered by an Artist Mix. Transport and faders-Artist Control. Just transport and a fader for doing volume rides-Presonus Faderport. All these options would allow you to ditch the 002 and use the LS56 and all of its IO

The artist control would be the one.
Features are good, but build quality seems just OK.
Really have some concerns about where Avid is headed though.
Not sure what product lines they are committed to.
Good time to wait and see.
