Liquid Saffire 56 and Digi002
Wondering if a 56 can be routed for Analog and DIGITAL external processing sends and returns through ADAT.
The Analog should be no problem but I'm wondering if I can do a digital send from the 002 ADAT pass through the 56 and return. Also, Can it be done using the second ADAT ports on the 56. and can the 56 be set to be the clock source. The 56 manual is not too helpful on exactly what can be routed/clocked where.

Re: Liquid Saffire 56 and Digi002
I don't think the 002 can send adat - my 003r didn't just receive
I don't think the second set of adat connectors are functional in anything aside from higher than 96 K sample rates - could be wrong on that second point but dont think so

Now for the clock source, unless your 002 can receive an external clock through the adat port, you won't be able to set the LS56 as the clock source. Your best bet is to set the 002 as the clock source (through adat if it can send it) and then you set the ls56 to external adat 1.. or adat 2 depending on where you plug the 002. If you're not planning on sending any signal back to the 002, you don't need to set a cable in the adat outs of the ls56 and you don't need to worry about the adat 1.1 to 1.8 and 2.1 to 2.8 in the output section of the mix control. If you're planning to do a return then you have to plug a cable in the adat out of the same number, and then set up the appropriate adat output in the mix control. Also you have to remember, if you want to send 8 channels of adat from the 002 or the ls56, your sample rate has to be at 48 khz. Hope that helps. |

Re: Liquid Saffire 56 and Digi002
I only use the 002 as a control surface (preamps and converters not so great), but it has to be the audio engine on Windows so my audio is all going through ADAT.
No problem with the 002 ADAT going I/O or receiving a external clock from ADAT. I use it with an external effects unit this way now but I would like to have the effects available through software routing on the LS 56 so I don't need to move cables around. I expect this would work if the LS56 were my main interface and I was sending the audio to PT through Firewire, but it's not clear if the LS 56 will let me route it's ADAT inputs to a another ADAT device and return them. I also want to do the same to send and return but use the LS56 D/A - A/D to connect analog effects.

For the analogue effect, you will see that the LS56 has 10 outputs (2 of those are for the mains) at the back in TS jacks. It also has 10 inputs in ts jacks at the back also. So you will be able to use it to send and receive the analogue signal to and from your effects. Basically I would suggest you take the time to study the mix control router panel, it's not obvious at first glance, but it's not long to learn to use the way you want to do it. http://www.focusrite.com/answerbase/...le.php?id=1094 It's not self explanatory but it should help. |

Re: Liquid Saffire 56 and Digi002
The 002 console driver won't play with another device as the engine so I'm stuck with it - if it works at all in 11
Thanks for the info.

Re: Liquid Saffire 56 and Digi002
Re the 002 as a controller, how much of it do you really need? Faders could be covered by an Artist Mix. Transport and faders-Artist Control. Just transport and a fader for doing volume rides-Presonus Faderport. All these options would allow you to ditch the 002 and use the LS56 and all of its IO

Re: Liquid Saffire 56 and Digi002
The artist control would be the one.
Features are good, but build quality seems just OK. Really have some concerns about where Avid is headed though. Not sure what product lines they are committed to. Good time to wait and see.
