Will Fire wire be able to support Hard drives?
Will it be better than SCSI? When will the new Adaptec SCSI Cards be tested? Thanks |

Re: Fire Wire?

Yes. The question is "When?" So far, none of the major hard drive manufacturers is ready (willing, actually) to mass produce 1394 (FireWire) drives. Will it be better than SCSI? Unknown. It's not faster than Ultra 2, but it promises hot-swappability. It's just not clear what the performance will be in real-life. When will the new Adaptec SCSI Cards be tested? We're working with Adaptec on a couple of issues that need to be addressed, but I'm afraid it's going to take some time. I don't mean to sound evasive, but it's a little up in the air. Hopefully more sooner than later. --Steve Rosenthal, Digidesign ETS
