Output from Digidesign 192 --> Speakers
Hi, these are my first steps with Pro Tools HD and I hope you can help with some suggestions.
I have a Pro Tools HD connected to the Digidesign 192 card with Digital AES/EBU IO How do I go from the DB-25 connectors to the speakers analog inputs ? Do I need a converter of some kind ? I only need to hear what I'm doing while mixing - I might record some synth occasionally but not recording sessions. Can I use the S/PDIF connection to feed some digital to analog converter ? Any suggestions ? I would like to keep the costs moderate-low as again I need the output for listening only. Thanks |

Re: Output from Digidesign 192 --> Speakers
Hi
You will need a monitor system I used the Behringer Mini monitor when I first got pro tools which is good and cheap. (I have it for sale if you are interested) you can all get one by Presonus which is apparently good too but a lot more expensive. For the Digi 192 you will need a DB-25 lead with jacks on the other end. These will go into your control station (Behringer/Presonus) then come out on that in to your speakers Hope this Helps

Re: Output from Digidesign 192 --> Speakers
Hi, thanks for teh reply. The Behringer needs analog inputs - I have digital AES IO - or am I getting confused ?
For what I've found looks like I should need a Digital to Analog converter - but I am hoping there was a cheap way to get around this Any ideas ? |

Have you checked the Presonus Control Station out does that have Digital inputs?

Re: Output from Digidesign 192 --> Speakers
Hi thanks for helping me out - I had a 888/24 years ago and it was very simple back then...
The Presonos looks really nice - also it has S/PDIF input - the 192 has a S/PDIF output too so that should work (I think) The problem is that I will have to do some occasional recording - a guitar or a bass for example, so I was thinking that perhaps something like the FOCUSRITE OctoPre LE with ADAT In/out would work. It has line output and ADAT inputs and not very expensive. I've never worked with ADAT so I'm a bit wary about this option.... What do you think ? The focusrite go for about 250£ (I would like to keep the budget below 350£) Thanks |
