Default Toolbox Xp & Midi

I'm thinking of bying myself the toolbox xp to use on a seperate computer for running my softsynths. Now I don't see any midi ports on the toolbox, and I wonder if it's possible to sync digi with toolbox ?
What would be the use to have protools LE with 128 midi tracks, and have no MIDI in or out anyway ?

Hi JJay,

Pro Tools will work in conjunction with any third-party OMS-compatible MIDI interface.

I use an Emagic AMT8 (8in/8out USB) alongside my Digi001, for example.

What about EMI 2/6 by Emagic. I got the picture that I probably will have to purchase a midi-interface to sync them...
Or can I sync digi with the serial bus ? to for example delta audio cards ?

Hi again,

Yeah, it seems to be performing very well. Mind you, so did my 4in/4out Roland S-MPU64. I picked up my AMT-8 for under AUS$900, so I presume it would be around the US$400-500 mark. Of course, there's plenty of cheaper models around if you don't need so many in/out ports.

I do have timing problems once my CPU is under moderate to heavy CPU load (due to audio plug-in use). For timing critical stuff, I deactivate plug-ins, record MIDI to audio, and re-activate the plugs.

I still haven't determined whether this lack of MIDI priority resides with the Mac OS, USB, OMS, or Pro Tools.

Logic, for example, has a clever workaround to offer superior timing by sending MIDI in advance to a buffer within the MIDI interface. But it only comes into play when Logic is used in conjunction with the Emagic AMT-8. Steinberg's Cubase also has a similar 'time-stamping' technology for use with its MIDI interfaces.

I would love to see Digidesign take advantage of this feature within my AMT-8

Phil

Just caught your second post...

Sounds fine. I've yet to test and therefore prove Serial is superior to USB, but others rave about serial performance. Technically, USB appears to be a much faster protocol than serial, but maybe there's OS priority issues that degrade the performance of USB in real-world use?? Or maybe neither are better, I don't know.

The emi is an audio only usb interface.
