Need to upgrade from PT 9 to PT 12
I hope everyone will be patient with my questions here...
My Pro Tools is old (version 9.06). It is stable and works well on my oldish hardware (a 6-core Windows machine that's about 3-5 years old w/8GB of RAM). It mostly works great for me. I don't have any extra plugins at all and rely instead on my outboard gear to get good sounds. I usually have someone else mix my recordings. I'm not much of a MIDI guy and I don't care much for amp modeling but I do love a good reverb/delay/distortion sound and I do frequently make some use of Reason for synths and other things. I'm hoping to get some really nice orchestral sounds maybe like Metropolis Ark (but hopefully more affordable). I don't have any specific burning need to upgrade given my workflow, but I am starting to get that sneaking feeling that PT 9 is just way too old. I'm also thinking I'd like to streamline the process I use to get sounds from Reason into ProTools. I understand one can interact directly with Reason inside Pro Tools but have no idea how this works. My workflow at this stage requires me to export WAV files from Reason then import them into Protools. This is super tedious -- especially when you just want to change a tempo or something. While I am familiar with Reason, I'm also open to other programs to do what Reason does (do they still call these programs 'sequencers?' What do you call these programs? Lastly, I have a Digi 002 console at home office and a Digi 003 Rack+ down at the space. I would like to keep these if possible. I *might* be able to replace the Digi 002 at home but I absolutely must be able to keep using the Digi 003. Can anyone suggest the best/cheapest upgrade path to get to the latest Pro Tools? To be honest, I don't even need the latest and would settle for 10 or 11, but I am concerned about paying a lot for features I don't need and also very concerned about buying a fancy, expensive new PT 12 which just can't run well on my existing hardware. Will I have to buy PT 10 then PT 11 then PT 12? Any advice would be much appreciated. |

$299 to get current. At which point you'd "own" a perpetual license that never expires. The $99 yearly plan is what gets you whatever new versions Avid release during that year. If you stop paying the $99, you're frozen on whatever was the current version when your plan expired. Not a subscription, make sense?
