Default Vista 64 and Pro tools?

So Im scanning the forums and am I right in seeing that You cannot run Protools LE off a 002 factory if you are running Vista ultimate 64? I emailed the guy about the beta program but he never replied. Im running an intel mac with bootcamp running Vista 64 Ultimate. I Have 7.4cs5 but it doesnt work. It hangs loading DAE.

Windows Vista

Windows Vista Now Supported with Pro Tools LE 7.4 & Pro Tools M-Powered 7.4
Digidesign strives to support a wide variety of host computers and operating systems with our Pro Tools® product line, and we’re excited to support Windows Vista (32-bit) Ultimate and Business* operating systems with Pro Tools LE® 7.4 and Pro Tools M-Powered™ 7.4 software. However, at this time Pro Tools HD® 7.4 software is not compatible with Windows Vista. Customers using Pro Tools HD 7.4 wishing to upgrade to Windows Vista should wait until support is officially announced.

Please note that at this time, Avid video peripherals such as Mojo SDI® are not supported with Pro Tools LE 7.4 on Windows Vista. Support for Avid video peripherals with Vista is expected in a future Pro Tools LE compatibility update.

*Windows Vista Home and Home Premium Editions not tested. Although Windows Vista Home and Home Premium Edition have not been tested or qualified by Digidesign, there are currently no known issues with Vista Home and Home Premium 32-bit operating systems and Pro Tools LE and M-Powered 7.4 compared to the officially qualified Windows Vista Business or Ultimate Edition operating systems.

Windows Vista 64-bit OS installation (any version) is not compatible with Pro Tools.

If you are purchasing a new Windows computer and need to use Pro Tools LE or M-Powered 7.3 or earlier, check to see if the manufacturer offers the option to configure with Windows XP Home or Windows XP Professional preinstalled. If that is not an option, the following article offers some suggestions:

So then wouldnt I be a good candidate for that beta thing? I cant beleive that with Vista being out this long Digi hasnt gotten around to supporting the Newest Microsoft software fully. Not just the easiest ones to do. So I will be waiting then huh?

Look at how long it took them to support the newest version of Mac OS.

As far as Digidesign is concerned, 64-bit computing is worthless, and doesn't offer any additional processing ability for audio applications. They have said as much on these very forums several times in the past several years. We won't see a move to 64-bit Protools until 90 percent of the rest of the computing industry has moved to 128-bit computing.

Digi: 64-bit has no advantages

Who cares if it has any advantages. It is an Operating system. I didnt realize that it was so hard for digi to figure out how to make their program work with todays modern technology. There simply is NO excuse for 64 bit Vista to not be supported. What a half-assed company...

Actually, there is. 64-bit compatibility would require a complete rewrite of the entire Protools code base for Windows, which dates back to the Windows 3.1 days. Unfortunately, it has gotten too large, and there are no coders left from those days, so no one really knows what the actual code structure is anymore.

Either love Protools for what it is, or go somewhere else.

The Digi article listed discusses Pro Tools as a 64 bit application.

Since that time we have Leopard (which is I believe 64 bits from top to bottom) and both 64 bit XP Pro and Vista. While the performance benefits of PT as a true 64 bit app verses a 32 bit app is somewhat debatable the truth is the current VI's and the instances of them the latest processors will run is that we are now running out of memory. So whether PT as a app needs to go 64bit from a performance stand point is almost besides the point-it needs to go from a addressable memory stand point.

If your wondering if PT will run on Vista 64 my understanding is that it will run just fine as a 32 bit app. Ya got Vista 64? Install it and have at it.

As far as whether Digi should support Pro Tools on each and every variant of Windows is somewhat debatable. They only support what they have tested and what they do test they test pretty rigorously.

As far as whether they should qualify Vista 64 right away thats VERY debatable. If I had to guess I would say the Vista 64 probably has about 3% market penetration and when you factor in the amount of DAWs running 64Bit Vista that number is going to be lower yet. The development money is better spent in areas of broader benefit

I suspect the upcoming Vista trails will be for qualifying Vista on HD and the fact that they want 64 bit users tells me that now that both MAC and Windows offer a 64Bit platform that they will probably begin to slowly move forward there.

64bit is here to stay and within the next year or two will trickle into the mainstream.

So how would i go about running it as a 32 bit operation? I dont care 1 way or the other if it runs at 32or 64 bits. I happen to buy Vista ultimate 64 and would like to be able to run t on there. I dont want to have to sell this copy and get another one.

I would think Im perfect for the 64 bit beta...

Well since I don't have Vista installed on anything at the moment I can't help. I suspect that when you run the installer it installs it as a 32bit app. You may need to run it in compatibility mode. Or WoW (Windows on Windows mode)

There are several people running Pro Tools 7.4 on Vista 64bit Hopefully some one will see this and answer. I'm curious myself actually.
