Default \'upgrade\' for 001 users with M-Audio gear?

I have an 001 and a 2496. Currently I'm stuck on PTLE 6.4 with the 001. Would be rather nice to 'upgrade' the software without having to buy new hardware...

Eh Digi?

Have somebody tested M-Powered with 001? I have outboard converters, pres and amp (Rme adi2, MP20,C-control) so I don't want to buy 002. It is not upgrade for me. But I want new software!!

I am pretty amazed, that Digi do not wanna make money with 001 owners but give hand to M-audio. Silly business.

It's odd isn't it? Or maybe just an oversight. The 2496 is a PCI card (I think) so the M-Powered PT must detect it's presense through something similar to a user looking in the hardware profile. In which case it could just as easily look for a 001 card...

I'm not suggesting this as a general marketing principle - it would get messy - but just for old users of the 001 they could add the relevant bit of code and it would then be a viable 'side-grade' - maybe even for the AM3.

Yes....first i think 001 droped out because it is PCI. But M-powered is PCI and firewire.

But have somebody tested 001 and M-Powered?

The 001 was dropped because it's no longer current. They don't want use resources to test new releases on obsolete gear. I have an old Sound Tools system sitting in a Mac IIci in my basement, should they support that too? Where do they draw the line and say something is finished? The 001 is over 10 years old. Not a bad run...

Avid owns both Digidesign and M-Audio so it makes good business sense. Digi was getting beat on the low end, so instead of lowering their prices, they created a whole new level. Pretty smart actually.

Some of the supported M-Audio interfaces are PCI and some are Firewire. PCI still has advantages, so it's not going away completely, at least for a while.

The 001 is not over ten years old and if you ask me, they discontinued it because it out-performs the 002 range.

The 001 rocks! I have a stable system without all the problems that Mbox/USB 1.1 and 002/Firewire users face. Combined with the clean preamps and high-quality converters in the Focusrite Octopre, my 001 is one smooth recorder.

I agree. I'm selling my 002 Rack and finally moving all audio recording to Linux as it's far more stable and has rocking great support for dual processor.

That said M-Powered would allow me to continue to use my old 002 sessions on my old AP2496. Great product....if it works!!!

It's not a case of 'support'.

The M-powered PT (or whatever it's called) works in a PC environment. It's not dependant on whatever M-Audio gear it finds, it just refuses to function if it doesn't see any - the M-audio gear continues working as it did before the PT install.

My suggestion would mean that PT-M would also work if it saw an 001 attached. Maybe the audio inputs on the 001 would work, maybe not. I'd rather they did, but I would accept them not working (and many folk don't use them anyway) just for the benefits of having the newer software.

Such a 'sidegrade' would be a minor coding problem, would generate goodwill, and would certainly give Digi some income. No 'support' needed, and money in the bank.

I very much doubt it'll happen though.

That would be a great idea. I have a feeling that someone would have to hack PTMP for that to happen though.

Oh and MPark - the 001 isn't over ten years old. Maybe you're thinking the Audiomedia series? I for one thought that the discontinuation of software support for the 001 was premature. In fact, that's the only reason I didn't buy one.
