Default Control 24 makes loud pop or digital distortion?

hi all (again )

here is another control 24 question. we have a 2nd control 24 in another mix room and last week it made a loud pop through the monitors while tracking. i know it wasnt the monitors, and no one tripped over a power cord or anything. it didnt record it either so i know it wasnt on the microphone end either. so i stopped and had to reset the mic pres (press the mic, line, -10 switch ) cause all of my inputs got stopped and no signal was coming in. then everything was fine.

then a few days ago. same senario but this time it was a LOUD (i mean gates of hell fart sound that i never want to hear again..but probably and unforteunately will at some point in my career) digital distortion came out of the monitors in the control room. i almost fell out of my seat. again no digital distortion sound was recorded, so i know it wasnt in the live room or from the mic, and the guitar player was still playing and his stuff was being recorded fine. and no one hit any power cables or bumped the power conditioner or anything like that. so it only occurred in the control room's monitors. as a result, i shut everyhting down and rebooted the computer and the control 24. one of the genelecs was making a hiss in the tweeter after that. (not sure if it got blown or if it still works, i just swapped it out for another and kept working and havent retested it since ) after that, session went fine.

so here is my question. what might have cuased that horrible sound and what to do to prevent it? at first i thought i might be something with the phantom power supply. then i was thinking it might be the power going to the room itself (breaker tripping?) i just have a feeling it has to do with power and not something like a bad cable or preamp or mic or something..

any help would be appriciated

i just posted a help /fix for this problem but if your using the 24 as your playback level moniter to speaker adjust and your power flicks off and on your gonna hear a loud pop. digi should have designed a delay circuit on power up for the control 24 ... check control 24 connection post if your problem is flickering display or random popping

I have recently experienced the same random 'pops' or digital distortion that Joe describes with the C|24. They're LOUD and completely random. Sometimes I've gone for a week or two and nothing happens, then suddenly out of the blue... "THWAAAAACK!!!!" It's already blown one of my KRKs so I've gotta do something fast. I'm calling Tech Support tomorrow, but wondered if anybody has had a similar experience and know of a potential fix? It seems to be something related to the monitoring section of the C|24, or at least generated through the main monitoring bus. Difficult to pinpoint since it's so random... Ideas?

Before I bought my C24 I got a lot of advice to buy an external monitor controller, like the Presonus Central Station. Seems like a lot of people have had problems with the C24 monitor section, and this tends to be the most popular "fix". I've only had the Presonus up-and-running for a couple of months, but I couldn't be happier. The sound is super clean, and it's real easy to use. Don't know if this is the kind of answer you're looking for, but if you've got the money, it's definitely worth it. Hope this helps.
Due to budget cuts the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.

Just FYI, Digi Tech Support is working with me to isolate/fix the problem. They sent instructions on cleaning cable connections on certain components with Deoxit and troubleshooting the CUB board. Hopefully we'll find & resolve it.
