Will 003R play audio as a sound card?

I just went from m-powered (using a Project Mix I/O) to LE ( a BLA modded 003R). Now, windows doesn't recognize the LE as a "sound card", the way that the PM worked....any ideas? I would like to liten to itunes, web content, etc. Is there a program that solves this problem?

I haven't been able to get the Digi003 to work as a soundcard alone like you're asking. But, I have a 1/8" stereo male - 2x1/4" mono male cable going from my line out on my computer to the AUX INs on the Digi003, then it's as easy as tapping the "AUX IN" button on the front of the Digi003 to switch from Pro Tools audio to computer audio from iTunes, YouTube, etc. The good thing about this too is that it's super easy to just take that 1/8" stereo male end from the computer and feed it into an iPod or anything else.

That's my suggestion as well, or use a monitor/source selector(I use a Presonus Central Station and run optical SPDIF from my computer). This also avoids any hardware conflicts. As to making it work directly thru Windows, it depends on which version of Windows(XP-yes, Vista-no).

Have you gotten it to work with XP Pro? I never have been able to play Windows audio through the 003 Rack+ except by using the AUX In. Before I got the Gigabyte board it worked fine (except for the audio not being as loud), but now using the Gigabyte audio out to the 003 AUX in I have a really annoying noise. I'm looking for a cheap digital/analog converter to use the S/PDIF out on the motherboard going to the AUX in of the 003.

I use an old "Echo Layla" for that if I need it. PCI to AD/DA.

Honestly, I never even tried. I just grabbed a mini plug to RCA cable and patched it up. It worked fine except for being a little noisy. Then when I built my first dual core system, it had optical SPDIF. Adding a Presonus Central Station netted me so many good things, I may never be without that piece. It allows me to patch in the optical SPDIF AND RCA SPDIF(003) as well as a CD player, 003 analog out, Yamaha motif(listen without PT open), 2 sets of speakers and a powered sub.

FYI - with ProTools 10 I just selected "Digi003 direct in 1 & 2" as my "playback device" in windows and my computer sounds come through the Digi by themselves - nothing to configure. They seem to get sound right through the firewire.
