Default Unsure if entitled to the latest update

Hello there DUC community,

I bought an academic version of Pro Tools 10 as a student some years ago, which included 4 years of free upgrades.

I only recently bought a new Mac and finally decided to take the plunge and update to Pro Tools 12, which had been sitting patiently for me for years. First of all, I am really impressed with the new system, and even though some competitors had clinched this for some time already, the upgrade to 64bit architecture has been a breath of fresh air for big projects.

Anyway, before I bought the laptop, at some point prior I received an email from Avid informing me my subscription was changing to a perpetual plan. Given at the time I had no interest in upgrading (RTAS restrained me in this regard), by my own admission I hadn't been paying attention to the policy changes Avid was introducing re the upgrade paths. Being a little ignorant of new practices and how it might affect my ability to update my system going forward, I allowed it to lapse in Sept 2018 (cash was/is really tight, I'm sure many can relate in this day and age!)

The problem is, my new Mac came with High Sierra installed, and the Pro Tools 12.4 installer predates this OS; this has led to some strange behaviour, such as inability to import audio through File-->Import Audio and some 'interesting?' behaviour with warp markers

In my iLok Licence Manager, it states that I still have a Pro Tools Perpetual Bundle, which includes:
PT10
PT11
PT12
PT Perpetual

From what I understand looking through this forum, given my subscription lapsed in September, does this mean I am entitled to install the latest version of PT12.8.18 and thus install a version compatible with my OS? I can't see anywhere in iLok Manager or AvidApplicationManager to update if I can.

I apologise in advance if my question comes across as a bit daft or ill-informed by the experienced users here, but I've been looking into it all and feel a little overwhelmed by the sheer wealth of info on here and filtering what info is pertinent to my situation. And just to make matters a little more complicated, my iLok in manager says it is a first generation; however, am I not right in saying that Pro Tools 11 & beyond requires a 2nd gen minimum? If it helps, it was a circa 2010 iLok and is black with a blue LED when plugged in.

Thanks very much in advance,
Arrun

An old Pro Tools 12 license allows you to install versions prior to Pro Tools 12.6, after that you need to upgrade your license. That change/requirement was well discussed on DUC back in the day.

You already have a second gen iLok, so not relevant to this issue.

US$299 to re-up your perpetual license to 2018.x, if you now hold a standard perpetual license, and that upgrade gives you a year of software updates. If you need more help contact a Pro Tools dealer.

Hi Darryl,

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Is this still true given that my full perpetual licence only lapsed in Sept 18 when several post 12.4 updates were already available to me? I still have an active 'Pro Tools `perpetual' licence which, according to the knowledge base article here: http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...-a-new-license , means I have already surrendered and received an enabling licence?

Thanks again,
Arrun

Sep 18th.... but what year are you talking about???

Look it’s easy (but just not obvious), and well discussed on DUC already, ... If you had an active plan *when* 12.6 was released you should have had that new Pro Tools 12.6 and later license key bundle deposited in your Avid account.

edit:I see you have the right KB article... so if a qualified 12.6 license key is showing up on your iLok (look with ILM) what is the actual problem you are having? The iLok license does not work? You don’t have an installer in your account? And the PT 12.6 and later Pro Tools license will work with Pro Tools 12 post 12.6 updates, but not 2018 updates.

If you were eligible and a license bundle was not deposited in your account, or installers are not in your account (up to the time your plan expired) then open a licensing support ticket with Avid.

Doh, sorry, re-reading the first long post. If your update plan expired on September 2018 you should have a Pro Tools 2018 compatible license, and installers deposited into your Avid account up to when the plan expired.

The iLok key won't say "2018" it will just say "Pro Tools Perpetual bundle with 10/11/12". What actual problems are you having?

Haha no problem. Ahhh ok brilliant, my problem then is knowing which installer I can download - can i get the latest version, or just the 12.6+ version that was out when september rolled around or?

And where can I find a downloader? Cannot see anything on my MyAvid under my products other than the 12.4 installers?

Thanks again man,
Arrun

EDIT: I've just had a look and I've finally found the installers. Says I have up to version 2018.7 - so i guess I am barred from grabbing 2018.8 until I shell out £250 for a reinstatement plan?

There wasn't a 2018.8. Next was 2018.10

And yes on the reinstatement plan

Thanks for your response.

So just belt & braces as I want to be absolutely sure I'm not going to uninstall my current 12.4 build only to have licence issues upon installing 2018.7 - should my perpetual licence which lapsed in August (checked again, it was Aug 2018 and Avid emailed me about it in Sept) allow me to install 2018.7 as the latest update I'm entitled to?

Check the license bundle in iLM for the Release Limit date (right+click > Show Details for the bundle) since that will tell you the most current Pro Tools version that it will authorize.

Hi Jeffro,

Cheers for the info - didn't know I could check this way. My release limit stipulates 'Versions released on/before 19/08/2018' - do you know which version I'd be entitled to from that date?

Cheers in advance
