Default Selected ASIO audio device could not be initialized

Hi everyone,

I'm using Protools version 11.3.1 on Windows 10, 64 bit.

Recently I shut down and restarted my computer and ever since then, when I try to launch Protools I get the message:

"Selected ASIO audio device could not be initialized"

The correct playback engine (Avid Mbox Mini Asio (64 bit)) has been selected, I double checked that.

I apologize, I don't know where to find any error logs to give you more information.

Is there anywhere I can pay for support on this issue? I really have no idea how to fix it and I need it up and running soon!

Any advice is greatly appreciated

thanks

Sonia

This may or may not help:

Go to Control Panel>Sound and disable any instance of the Mbox under the Playback and Record Tabs. Make sure your onboard sound card is selected as the Default. The Mbox should only be used for Pro Tools.

Anytime there is a Windows update, there is a chance the settings in Control Panel>Sound will change.

You can also make sure 100% the correct interface is chosen by launching PT with the N key held down and when prompt popup comes up choose the MBox as interface there and let PT finish loading.

I didn't know that!

Yes, the mbox was there and not disabled when I checked - but I actually uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and that fixed it.

Thanks for the tip The Weed.

Southsidemusic, thank you as well. I did what you suggested.

cheers

You should also go to Device Manager>Universal Serial Bus controller and make sure, under the Power Management Tab - if there - under each USB listed, that "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is Unchecked.

This is just one of many recommended Avid Optimizations. Do them all.

After any Windows update, be sure to check your Sound and USB optimizations as they may revert due to the update.
