Default Auto-Tuned Christmas Songs...What is the point?

Sorry for the little rant here, but...

What is the point of auto-tuned Christmas music? Isn't the whole reason for recording a Christmas song to showcase a vocalist? Are you really that much of a megalomaniac that you feel the need to subject the whole world to your mediocre vocal talent via some overplayed cover song?

Maybe I've just worked retail too many years...

No idea what you are talking about here

Anything specific as I do know many artists who would never accept us putting any vocal tuning on their recordings even if the suits wants that in there.

Are you talking about pitch correction? Or that over done Auto-tune/vocoder effect that all the hip-hop guys like?

I've (slowly) come to terms with the auto-tune/vocoder thing as used as "creative effect", although it isn't my thing.

I can also get behind someone who is religious needing some pitch-correction help with their praise music. Again, not my thing, but I can respect that.

I'm talking about pitch correction artifacts that I can clearly hear on the latest diva/divo-pop renditions of "Jingle Bells", "White Christmas", "Winter Wonderland", "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)", etc.. You can hear these jerks really "going for it", but I can hear what's really holding them together. Sell outs.

P.S. FWIW, I think Phil Spector's "A Christmas Gift For You" is one of the greatest albums ever recorded.

We all have our own taste and even though I never heard that Phil Spector album I can work out that we are not on the same music page hehe

But thats OK as we all are allowed to like what we want

Regarding the Xmas songs you posted I cant say I am even a bit bothered as everything pop these days are heavily processed and many or the songs today are made in 2-3 hrs or less and we can all hear it so maybe I have just settled in expecting the top hits of today beeing very badly produced and recorded as badly in someones bedroom with harsh sounding vocals and over processed background music that just zipps past in the Speakers and leave absolutely nothing to make me wanna have a second listen!

All IMNSHO of course so if I would hear a XMAS song with Autotuned vocals I would probably just think - Another artist who can’t sing added to the line of crap played to bits on the radio and clubs until the next batch of the same are released a few days later done in a few hrs ONLY to make money and givint us a big middle finger for falling for their minutes spent on the song ...

Thanks a lot Technology for this avalanche of caca called music these days!

I find that there are 2 kinds of singers that I tune. Those that listen back after my work and say, "Thanks. You made me sound great". And those that say, "Wow, I had no idea I was that good".....

However just recently I heard someone rave about a Jackson 5 Christmas album that I might have a listen to in the near future

Young Michael tears it up! No auto-tune needed! Listen to "Up on the House Top", it's pitchy AF but who cares? Great album!

Great one! Check out the Osmonds’ Caroling Medley
No AutoTune needed when you've got natural talent!
