Default Recording MIDI - Timing Off

This must be something really simple, but I've wasted too much time trying to figure out what's going on, so I'm gonna have to bore y'all with it...

I'm running PTLE 7.3.1cs3 and trying to record a MIDI track with my M-Audio Axiom 25 MIDI controller. I'm just trying to record a simple drum beat, but the recorded MIDI data is not being recorded in real time - it is lagging by a significant amount. I have a click playing and trying to record quarter notes on the snare, just to simplify things, and it's not even close.

Any idea what the issue might be???

Thanks!

John

Yeah, your hardware buffer might be set too high.

Any other suggestions would be just guesses without more information from you; Details about your computer system, details about how you have the session setup and what plugin(s) you are using, etc

Are you recording to a simple 'Midi' track or to an 'Instrument' track?
I find that when I use a midi controller (keyboard) to record to an instrument track, it helps reduce latency a great deal when the input of the track is set to NONE or NO INPUT.
Then I can record through the plugin on the instrument track with extremely little latency.

Maybe this helps?...
