Motif6: I bet any money that I've been thru *EXACTLY what you describe with my 002 rack.. You might get as many opinions from as many people on this forum because who knows, it may help. But I will tell you what I went thru: I purchased 2 troubleshooting cases from AVID and my problem went unresolved. And, like you, I could change buffer sizes and get temporary relief. But sound issues would ALWAYS returned typically after 5 or so minutes. And for me, as long as the audio was fully recorded well, the play back would ALWAYS be good.. My distorsion or bad clocking of sound was always relating to new tracks being put on my projects. Sometimes a given track would start out being clear and then kick over to that distorted sound you describe. And the playback would show that exact same effect. Start of the song was good, 1 or 2 minutes into that new track was distorted.

Anyway, its a driver issue. The thing I have done to fix the problem was expensive, I no longer use the 002rack for this reason. I purchased a RME HDSP/Multiface sound interface. I've also tried some Focusrite gear which seems to have its issues too.

You might strongly consider getting a techsupport case with AVID. Your issue is likely going to be very deep and you may consider yourself lucky if its resolved with the current levels of drivers. Avid owes us drivers that works well for for the 002 & 003.

I wish you much luck!

I'm also getting distorted audio in playback and also when I record it sounds like the sample rate is all wrong even when PT9 and my Interface are matched.

I keep having to restart the session and then half way though the record/playback it happens.

I'm using a A&HZEDR16 Desk through Firewire as the interface and all my drivers are up to date. It used to be fine but only in the last week it seems to have gotten worse.

I just don't understand. Any help?

I'm on Windows 7 64bit

Any time something works fine for a while, and then goes bad...calls for some troubleshooting as to what has changed. For instance, is the computer connected to the internet(could be a virus, trojan or other BS). Did you install any new software or update? Do you have Windows automatic updates turned ON?(should be OFF). Did you load a session that came from some other system? This might be easily solved by rolling back to a known-working configuration by installing your cloned system drive, or restoring from a drive image......oh, you don't have either of those? How many times do I have to say it? Acronis True Image Home 11. Buy it. Use it. Be thankful for it.

I know several Windows 7 users having the same issues where recording audio will suddenly change to distortion, sounding like a clocking issue. After much troubleshooting they can only conclude it's a driver issue. I say this, because the instant fix is to go into the Hardware Setup, change the clock from Internal to External and back again and voilá, the audio is okay again. No need to close PT, no need to reboot, no need to Trash Preferences and Databases.

Cheers,
