Actually they are somewhat different plug-ins, and unfortunately Wave Rider (as good as it is) is Mac only. Waves Vocal Rider is cross platform.

For sure. It's a great plug-in. Saves me an hour on every mix not having to do the automation myself.

First I compress the vocals then I use Vocal Rider as a leveler without sending a submix into it, which works great. So far I've never felt the need to record and edit the automation because it works really well in automatic mode adjusting about +- 3dB.

It tightens up the vocals making them sit better in the mix, rendering a more professional sounding mix. Perfect for backing vocals and solo instruments as well.

I have both but I prefer the WAVES version. It usually saves me between 1 and 2 hours per mix.
