Studio Monitor Express won't run in background

I'm able to use the Control Room/Monitor knob on my MC Control properly when I have the SME app open in the foreground. As soon as I move to another app, SME moves to background (as an open running app) and I lose all Control Room/Monitor knob functionality. How is this helpful if I have to 'Apple+Tab' over to SME every time I want to change the volume? Am I missing some sorta preference setting or something?

I have all the lastest software installed (EuCon 2.5.6) and SME properly setup according to it's hardly informative manual.

Make sure, that while you have SME in the foreground, you open up the Eucontrol Settings, and click 'Control Room, Monitor locked to"

It should keep it locked to SME as long as it is running.
