Under the Same Moon (La Misma Luna)

Hi there,
I don't think I've ever posted about a film I've done, but this one's a little different. It's called "Under the Same Moon *(La Misma Luna) from Fox Searchlight and The Weinstein Company. It premiered at Sundance in 2006 and was snatched up after the 1st screening. It's just now been released, and with a budget of under $2mil has already grossed more than $13mil (and in only limited release). None of that means anything, but this was probably the best experience I've ever had on a film: great filmmakers (Patricia Riggen dir., Checco Varese DP), great score (Carlo Siliotto), great actors (Kate del Castillo, Eugenio Derbez & Adrián Alonso) and a great story. Everyone was a joy to work with, including the actors!

It's probably 75% in Spanish, with English subtitles. I was the Sound Editor/Designer and Re-Recording Mixer, the Foley was done at Post Creations in Van Nuys, and we shot the ADR here as well as at Churobusco Studios in Mexico.

Hi Gary,
Not sure when it will make it over there, it's only in about 450 theaters so far. You may be in for a long wait

Cool thing is, it was #14 this weekend at the boxoffice, but #3 in per-screen average. So, at least it's playing to packed houses!

As a composer as well as soundman, I think you'll really dig Carlo's score on this one. The first time that a score has let me re-think my concept for the mix- it's that good.

It's great when a good film with nice people actually does well at the boxoffice, which unfortunately doesn't seem to happen often enough.
